Schedule: 10 hour shifts, Monday-Friday, 7a-5:30p

Sign-On Bonus: Up to $7,500

SUMMARY:

As an Operating Room Surgical Technician, you play a vital role in the surgical team’s success. You will be responsible for ensuring a sterile environment and managing instruments, supplies, and equipment during surgical procedures. Your dedication to sterilization and efficiency is key to the success of each operation.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintain at least 15 hours of Continuing Medical Education (CME) per year.

• Check supplies, instruments, and equipment required for surgical procedures, ensuring proper operation.

• Provide a sterile field and ensure all surgical team members are properly attired while assisting the surgeon in draping the patient.

• Help maintain the sterile field by applying aseptic techniques and alerting the surgical team to any infractions.

• Pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon with care.

• Accurately count sponges and sharps with the RN before surgery and before closing the incision.

• Prepare and stock dressing materials for patient incisions.

• Assist in stocking operating rooms and may handle medications, sharps, and syringes during procedures.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Completion of a military surgical technology program -OR-

• Certified Surgical Technologist certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) along with a degree in Surgical Technology -OR- evidence of employment as a surgical technologist for at least one year from 12/31/10 to 12/31/14 -OR- if there is difficulty in hiring, a healthcare facility may employ someone lacking the usual qualifications.

• Certification through the NBSTSA within 24 months after starting is required, along with a degree from an accredited program.

• Surgical Technologist Certification is not required for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) with current licensure in New York State.

NEW GRADUATES:

• An official transcript or a letter directly from the school's registrar's office confirming program completion will be accepted at graduation.

• Primary source education verification is required within 90 days of start date.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds occasionally, 10 to 25 pounds frequently, and greater than negligible up to 10 pounds constantly. Frequent walking, standing, or squatting is required.
