Surgical Technologist - New Pay Rates

As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a critical role in the surgical team, working under the supervision of a surgeon to ensure that surgical procedures are carried out safely and effectively. Your expertise in asepsis and sterile techniques, combined with knowledge of human anatomy and surgical tools, will be essential in supporting physicians during both invasive and non-invasive procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Circulating Nurse in preparing for surgery, ensuring all necessary supplies, instruments, and equipment are available according to patient and surgical team needs.
• Maintain awareness of safety protocols related to patient care and equipment, ensuring proper handling and identification of specimens.
• Collaborate with team members to accurately restock supplies in your assigned area while being fiscally responsible.
• Prepare the operative site for surgery under the direction of a registered nurse and provide support to surgical team members, keeping them informed of the procedure's status.
• Commit to personal growth and development through ongoing training, attending in-services, and maintaining certification up-to-date with policies and procedures.
• Emphasize teamwork and collaboration within the operating room environment.
• Maintain sterile fields and apply aseptic techniques during surgical procedures, ensuring integrity and compliance with policies; assist the surgeon and verify counts with the Circulating Nurse.
• Demonstrate knowledge of sterile technique principles and apply them effectively in each procedure.

Qualifications

EDUCATION
A graduate of a CAAHEP accredited surgical technology program or an equivalent formal program per LCCST standards. Training through a hospital-based program or the military is acceptable.

EXPERIENCE
1-2 years of experience and certification as a surgical technician is preferred.

LICENSURE
Must obtain LCC-ST certification within one year of employment if not already certified.

SPECIAL SKILLS
Demonstrated knowledge of sterile and aseptic techniques, human anatomy, and various surgical instruments for all surgical services. Ability to work independently within the Perioperative Department.

PHYSICAL DEMAND
Ability to stand for 90% of the workday, lift up to 36 pounds, and manage stressful physical and interpersonal situations. Perform repetitive work, use fine hand manipulations, and work in varying room temperatures. Capable of repetitive skin scrubbing.
