Schedule: 10 hour shifts Monday-Friday; 7a-5:30p or 9a-7:30p

Sign-On Bonus: Up to $7,500

SUMMARY:

Join our dynamic surgical team at Unity Hospital and play a vital role as an Operating Room Surgical Technologist. In this essential position, you will ensure the safety and efficiency of surgical procedures by managing instruments, supplies, and equipment with precision and expertise.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintain at least 15 hours of Continuing Medical Education (CME) annually.
• Check and prepare supplies, instrumentation, and equipment for surgical procedures, ensuring proper operation.
• Establish and maintain a sterile field during surgeries, assisting the surgical team to ensure the operative site is isolated correctly.
• Adhere to aseptic principles to uphold the sterile field and instantly address any infractions with the surgical team.
• Efficiently pass instruments and supplies to the surgeon during procedures.
• Perform accurate counts of sponges and sharps with the RN before and after surgery closure.
• Prepare sterile dressings for patient incisions post-surgery.
• Stock surgical rooms and manage medications, sharp instruments, and syringes within the OR as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Completion of a military surgical technology program -OR-
• Certified Surgical Technologist certification through National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTS) with a degree in Surgical Technology -OR-
  Grand-Fathering Clause: Evidence of employment as a surgical technologist for a cumulative period of one year between 12/31/10 - 12/31/14 -OR-
  Hard to Fill Clause: Healthcare facilities may employ individuals who do not meet traditional surgical technologist qualifications if unable to hire sufficient qualified applicants.
• Obtain Certified Surgical Technologist certification through NBSTSA within 24 months of employment and possess a degree from an accredited program.
• Surgical Technologist Certification is exempt for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) with current licensure in the State of New York.

NEW GRADUATES:

• Acceptable documentation includes an official transcript from an accredited school or a letter from the registrar's office verifying program completion upon graduation.
• Primary source education verification required within 90 days of start date.

Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; requires frequent walking, standing, or squatting.
