This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.

This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedication and attention to detail towards safe and repeatable space flight. As the Senior Director, you will lead a team of IPTs in the development of new avionics designs as well as the oversight of existing avionics designs flying on the New Glenn launch vehicle. You will work closely with the Avionics Architect to define the path to reduce avionics cost and weight to an absolute minimum while increasing overall performance.

If you are adept at managing to a plan, comfortable responding to evolving requirements or external constraints, and prioritizing efforts all the while infusing and facilitating creativity and innovation, you will share in the team's impact on all aspects of avionics development!

In this role, you will lead an organization whose responsibilities include:

• Electrical Power Systems including new battery technologies
• Guidance, Navigation and Control Systems including GPS and Inertial solutions
• RF Telemetry & Receiver Systems
• Flight Computing Systems including Software to Hardware interface
• Instrumentation Systems
• Interface with Supply Chain for avionics

Qualifications:

• Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical, electrical, or aerospace engineering or equivalent technical field.
• 20+ years proven experience in the design, development, and flight operations of Avionics Systems & Systems Engineering.
• Experience leading and managing engineering teams.
• Experience with fault-tolerance strategies and architectures for safety and mission-critical systems.
• Proficient in the challenges, technologies, and historical system solutions endemic to the space environment and have knowledge in several subject areas such as avionics, propulsion, fluids, control systems.
• Experience across the product life cycle (pre-conceptual design through field support).
• Experience developing requirements, defining subsystem interfaces (both in-house and between external partners/suppliers), and other systems engineering products and practices.
• Experience with root cause corrective action and rapid response to flight anomalies.
• Experience working with U.S. Government research agencies (e.g. NASA, USSF, DARPA).

Desired:

• Advanced degree (MS/PhD) in mechanical, electrical, or aerospace engineering or equivalent technical field.
• Experience with development for space-flight environments.
• Proven understanding in the use of configuration and data management software (Windchill, DOORS, DNG).
• Experience with collaboration tools such as Confluence and JIRA.
• Familiarity with formal risk and opportunity management processes.

Compensation Range for: $246,483.00-$345,076.20
