CAMP Technical Director

The CAMP Technical Director leads a team of engineers and technicians, develops protocols for the production of medical models and devices, and collaborates with healthcare professionals to integrate 3D printing into clinical and academic environments.

The successful candidate will be skilled at leading technical teams, managing complex projects, and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. They will possess deep technical expertise in 3D printing technologies, strong project management skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Mission and Contribution

Clinical Additive Manufacturing Program (CAMP) implements centralized 3D printing technologies for clinical applications, enabling high-quality, personalized solutions for patient care. CAMP is a program with the Division of Healthcare Simulation Science (HCSS) in the Department of Surgery. The Technical Director contributes to the university's mission by advancing research, enhancing education, improving patient care, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, engaging with the community, securing funding, and boosting the university's reputation.

The Department of Surgery is among the largest clinical departments within the School of Medicine, and its strategic and financial impact on UW Medicine is substantial. Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field. Master’s or Ph.D. preferred.
  • Experience: 5 years of experience in 3D printing technology, with focus on medical or clinical applications

Additional Requirements

  • Proficiency in 3D printing technologies, materials, and software (e.g., CAD, slicing software)
  • Strong understanding of FDA regulations and compliance for medical devices
  • Hands-on experience with design, prototyping, and production of medical models and devices
  • Effective communication and training skills; ability to teach technical information to non-technical stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to evaluate and improve processes
  • Commitment to staying current with 3D printing advancements and applying knowledge to clinical applications

Desired Qualifications

  • Proficiency in multiple 3D printing technologies (FDM, SLA, DLP, SLS, MJ) and materials
  • Experience with medical segmentation software, DICOM imaging, parametric and mesh-based modeling
  • Experience designing and producing complex mechanical assemblies for clinical use

Conditions Of Employment

  • Work may occur in both office and clinical environments; compliance with safety protocols and PPE use is necessary
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends
  • Ability to lift equipment, stand for extended periods, and handle small, intricate parts
  • Ability to work remotely on an occasional basis as allowed by university policies

  • Pay Range Minimum: $125,004.00 annual
  • Pay Range Maximum: $140,004.00 annual
