Job Description
PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
Tutors, instructs, and re-teaches concepts from multiple disciplines to neurodiverse students in a variety of settings. The lifePATH Academic Strategist's primary responsibility is to address the executive functioning challenges experienced by students with cognitive disabilities such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, etc. through the use of visual supports, repeated review, re-framing instructions, chunking large concepts into smaller portions, and other research-based learning techniques designed to facilitate learning in neurodiverse populations.
LifePATH is a program designed for college students who have difficulty with executive functioning. Executive functioning refers to higher order cognitive skills that mature throughout childhood and into early adulthood.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Delivers effective tutoring services to neurodiverse students at scheduled times (may be individual or group sessions). Posts and maintains a weekly schedule of available hours for students' appointments
  • Assists students with the development of visual study materials and study skill strategies that meet the needs of neurodiverse students in post-secondary education
  • Monitors and reviews student work. Modifies and personalizes tutoring strategies to accommodate the different learning styles and needs of neurodiverse students
  • Facilitates the learning process by implementing an organized, scaffolded plan toward independence
  • Observes classroom instruction and collaborates with professors to create re-teaching plans and activities for designated tutoring times
  • Assists with the training, monitoring, and development of other staff responsible for teaching neurodiverse students
  • Presents best-practices and research-based techniques for neurodiverse populations during professional development opportunities
  • Continues professional growth through research and review of relevant material relating to neurodiverse populations
  • Keeps regular and accurate records of tutoring sessions and delivers feedback to staff and faculty regarding student progress
  • Responsible for other reasonable, related duties as assigned
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    • Possess a clear understanding of research-based strategies used to assist with effective learning in neurodiverse populations
    • Demonstrated proficiency in assigned discipline's subject matter
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written Ability to effectively work with students with disabilities who may have unpredictable needs and changing goals over time
    • Ability to make adjustments to plans, techniques, time-lines, and goals in order to assist students on their case-load
    • Ability to collect and analyze various forms of student data (assessments, grades, disability impact, soft skills and academic functioning, etc.) in order to match and develop supports, techniques, and team members
    • Strong analytical skills
    • Proficiency with common office software
    • Strong attention to accuracy and detail for tracking student success and student educational plans
    • Ability to communicate and work well with all levels of students
    • Ability to prioritize duties
    • Strong customer service skills
    PHYSICAL ABILITIES:
    The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
    WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:
    • Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment
    • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position
    • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, or related field
    • Experience teaching or tutoring people who have disabilities that impact executive functioning
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Experience must include at least 2 years working in higher education
    • Experience in lifePATH
    • Special Education Teacher certification
    Salary
    Hiring salary range is: $51,761 - $59,525
    Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.
