Health, Safety and Environmental Supervisor (HSES)

This Opportunity

WSP's Applied Solutions group is currently seeking a Health, Safety and Environmental Supervisor (HSES) to implement, monitor, and evolve the safety program at project sites throughout North America. This is an exciting opportunity to support a growing and vibrant Company that works on interesting and challenging construction projects. This position can be based anywhere in the United States but will require extensive travel to project specific locations, competitive per-diem and travel allowances are included. The position requires a knowledgeable self-starter who can balance priorities and work with various stakeholders to maintain compliance with regulatory, client and internal HSSE requirements. Experience and ability to serve as a Construction Manager and/or in a Quality Assurance role strongly preferred.

Your Impact

Reports to the Applied Solutions Safety Director with daily direction provided by the Project and Construction Manager

  Review work plans and safety SOPs to ensure they meet WSP and Project specifications

  Develop, conduct, and track/record daily and monthly required safety briefings and project status

  Develop task-specific Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) and work methods for hazardous work

  n

• n

  Ensure workers have proper levels of safety training and coordinate overall task-specific safety training where required

  n
n
• n

  Maintain safety training database by entering all required training in a timely manner

  n
n
• n

  Ensure proper personal protective equipment is available and used by work crews

  n
n
• n

  Review all subcontractors AHAs prior to procurement of services to ensure subcontracted work methods address identified and potential hazards and comply with WSP and client safety SOPs

  n

• n

  Conduct regulatory and customer required safety training

  n
n
• n

  Obtaining Qualified/Competent Person status for scaffolding, fall protection, etc.

• n

  Interface with managers, supervisors, team leads, and team members on safety aspects of work efforts to promote open communication

  Conduct or support occupational and perimeter air monitoring programs

  n
n
• n

  Collect and document site Postings and OSHA required information for state and corporate reporting

  Respond to and report incidents and near-misses and coordinate incident investigations

  n

• n

  Conduct behavior based safety observations and prepare Lessons Learned on best practices

  n

• n

  Conduct, document, and report all required monthly and annual safety audits

  n

• n

  Will travel to project sites in the US with potential for international assignments. Approximately 90% overnight travel. Competitive per-diem and travel allowances are included.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

• n

  High school graduate or equivalent (college degree preferred)

  n
n
• n

  7+ years construction/field H&S experience, ideally on Federal projects

  n
n
• n

  Ability to support construction projects throughout the US

  n
n
• n

  Experience in managing the health & safety of facility O&M craftsmen, preferably at a Federal government site, and environmental professionals performing contracted services

  n

• n

  Strong technical knowledge and background in regulatory standards and safety engineering

  n
n
• n

  Experience in performing multi-task projects with tight completion deadlines

  n
n
• n

  Good working knowledge and skills using MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

  n

• n

  Demeanor that promotes collaboration, teamwork, safety consciousness, open-mindedness with positive approach to problem solving

  Experience in developing and presenting safety training materials

  n

• n

  Experience in managing the training requirements for construction/trade workers

  Experience in assessing work hazards and developing safe work procedures

  Experience in briefing work crews and building occupants in the safety aspects of maintenance/construction work

  Experience or willingness to learn Quality Assurance support preferred

  Training in OSHA safety and/or industrial hygiene programs related to, construction, and environmental/infrastructure field work

  Ability and willingness to travel to project sites in the US with potential for international assignments. Approximately 90% overnight travel. Competitive per-diem and travel allowances are included

  Must pass background check, physical and client mandated drug tests and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy.

  CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) or STS (Safety Trained Supervisor)

  OSHA 30 Hour Construction Training and/or EM 385-1 40 hour training and experience

• n

  40 Hour HAZWOPER training with current certification

• n

  CPR, First Aid, AED, and Blood Borne Pathogens

  n

• n

  Construction related competent person/safety training (Scaffold, Fall Protection, Excavation, Forklift)

• n

  Previous experience overseeing Construction
