Your Day
The job responsibilities may include:
- Installing or repairing machinery and equipment.
- Adjusting and aligning machine parts.
- Ensuring operation of machinery and replacing defective parts of machinery as needed.
- Taking apart existing machinery to clear floor space for new machinery.
- Moving machinery and equipment.
- Performing repairs that include replacing worn or defective parts of machines.
- Using a variety of hand tools, like hammers and levels, as well as equipment for welding, brazing, and cutting.
- Using measuring tools, such as micrometers, measuring tapes, lasers, and other precision-measuring devices.
- Using cranes, trucks, forklifts, hoists, winches, and other equipment to bring parts to desired locations.
- Planning and performing repair work and troubleshooting using blueprints, diagrams, sketches, manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications.
- Locating sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
- Removing defective parts by dismantling devices, using hoists, cranes, hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts.
- Gaining technical knowledge by attending trainings, educational workshops & reviewing technical publications.
- Maintaining safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Knowledge of machinery, engineering, hydraulic, electronic or electrical systems.
- Manual dexterity, a steady hand, and good hand-eye coordination when handling very small parts.
- Mechanical skills and ability to use technical manuals and sophisticated diagnostic equipment to figure out why machines are not working.
- Ability to reassemble large, complex machines after finishing a repair.
- Good troubleshooting skills to observe, diagnose, and fix problems that a machine may be having.
- Wearing protective equipment, such as hardhats, safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, gloves, and earplugs.
- Experience using hand and electrical tools.
- Experience welding, brazing and cutting to repair or modify all equipment is extremely helpful.
- Ability to read technical manuals and drawings.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good judgment and problem solving skills.
- Ability to follow instructions, demonstrate initiative and work independently.
- A High School diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a formal technical training program or apprenticeship is a big bonus.
- Direct or related work experience would be extremely useful.
