Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the world leader in providing a highly reliable, scalable, low-cost infrastructure platform in the cloud powering hundreds of thousands of businesses in hundreds of countries around the world. As part of the AWS Infrastructure organization, Data Center Planning and Delivery (DCPD) prepares for, plans, and builds the data centers that comprise the AWS cloud. We’re seeking a Technical Infrastructure Program Manager in Herndon, VA or Seattle, WA to oversee data center infrastructure expansion projects in support of U.S. Government customers. The Technical Infrastructure Program Manager will lead cross-functional and technical teams from conceptual design feasibility through requirements, budget, completed design, implementation, testing, and deployment. The role requires judgment, negotiation, influence without authority, analytical talent, technical aptitude, and leadership to collaborate with a diverse set of stakeholders across multiple time zones, manage capital budgets, eliminate non-value-add activity, design solutions, remove blockers, and accelerate project delivery. This role involves interacting with internal and external customers, partners and suppliers to understand joint business goals and priorities, and to execute rapidly, delivering high-quality functionality. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, with experience in tactical project management of highly technical initiatives, calibrated judgment, negotiation skills, and the ability to thrive in an entrepreneurial and fast-paced environment. Experience in managing data center infrastructure deployments is a plus. Candidates with a Bachelors degree in architecture/design, mechanical/electrical engineering, software/network engineering, data center infrastructure/operations, or construction management who have transitioned to program management will have a distinct advantage. The Technical Infrastructure Program Manager should be proficient with project management tools and methodologies across the project lifecycle, including scope, schedule, budget, resources, quality, risk management, reporting and metrics. Familiarity with MS Office, MS Project and MS SharePoint is expected; experience with Tableau, Kanban, Playbook, SQL and systems integration is a plus. This position requires the candidate to be a US citizen and to obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance.
Key responsibilities
- Lead a matrixed team through influence in the execution of data center capacity projects, mindful of cost, schedule, and quality.
- Identify risks early and take swift action; balance ownership with partner teams to high standards of responsibility.
- Leverage technical and project-focused experience to deep dive issues and develop mitigations to minimize impact.
- Strive to ensure data center capacity is delivered ahead of customer demand.
A day in the life
- Review demand forecasts for assigned regions to ensure future builds trigger on time.
- Ensure design reviews are effectively conducted and resolve technical challenges uncovered through execution.
- Work on-site or in corporate offices depending on project needs.
