JOB SUMMARY:
We are seeking a licensed Journeyman Electrician to support the dismantling and disposal of vessels in compliance with DoD regulations, environmental standards, and workplace safety requirements. The Journeyman Electrician will work alongside shipfitters, welders, and other trades to ensure the safe and efficient decommissioning of vessels while mitigating risks associated with energized equipment, hazardous materials, and confined shipboard spaces. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the electrical trade, excellent problem-solving abilities, and a thorough understanding of safety procedures. The role involves working from technical blueprints to ensure safe, code-compliant wiring and lighting systems. Strong problem-solving skills and a solid understanding of safety procedures are essential.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams to plan electrical layouts
• Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, lighting, and control systems in various facilities
• Inspect transformers, circuit breakers, and other components for faults or wear
• Diagnose and resolve electrical issues using appropriate testing devices and tools
• Replace or upgrade faulty wiring, fixtures, and equipment to restore safe operation
• Perform preventive maintenance to ensure system reliability and longevity
• Ensure all work complies with the National Electrical Code (NEC), as well as state and local regulations
• Advise supervisors on potential hazards or unsafe equipment conditions
• Conduct corrective maintenance on circuit breakers and related systems
• Apply working knowledge of HVAC systems and associated electrical components.
• Work in shipyard environments including confined spaces, heights, and dry-dock conditions while adhering to all safety practices.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and organized condition.
• Learn to read and follow electrical schematics, diagrams, and technical manuals with guidance from supervisors.
• Use a variety of hand and diagnostic tools, including multimeters, conduit benders, and wire strippers.
• Maintain high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency in all tasks.
• Mentor and train apprentice electricians in proper techniques and safety practices.
• Performs additional duties and accepts other responsibilities as may be assigned.

Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities
EDUCATION:

• Must be a U.S. citizen.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of a certified electrician apprenticeship program (typically 4-5 years).
• OSHA 10/30 Maritime safety training, strongly preferred.
• Confined Space and Lockout/Tagout training, strongly preferred.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• Valid Journeyman Electrician license.
• Proven experience in shipyard, military, or heavy industrial electrical work.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical diagrams.
• Strong knowledge of electrical systems, components, and safety protocols
• Strong knowledge of shipboard electrical systems and dismantling procedures.
• Ability to use electrical and hand tools with precision and care.
• Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
• Physical ability to work in demanding shipyard conditions, including confined spaces and extended shifts.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills to coordinate across multiple trades.
• Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks, maintain equipment, and meet deadlines.
• Attention to detail to ensure all work meets regulatory and quality standards.
