Surgical Technologist - Children's Operating Room

Join the team at UNC Medical Center as a Surgical Technologist in our Children's Operating Room, where you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of pediatric patients.

This position offers exciting incentives for both experienced Surgical Techs and new graduates:

• Experienced Surgical Techs can enjoy up to a $5,000 sign-on bonus and a $10,000 commitment incentive, along with eligibility for up to $10,000 in relocation assistance.
• New graduate Surgical Technologists and those with less than one year of experience may qualify for a $10,000 commitment incentive and up to $10,000 in relocation assistance.

As part of UNC Medical Center's Children’s OR, you will be involved in:

• Six operating suites with an average of 20-25 cases per day.
• Working across multiple service areas including Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, ENT, Oral Maxillofacial, Burns, Ophthalmology, General Surgery, Plastics, Urology, and Dental Surgery.
• Utilizing state-of-the-art equipment that fosters continuous learning and collaboration with surgeons, OR staff, anesthesia teams, and other ancillary services.
• 36 hours per week with variable shifts and required call hours, including weekday evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities include:

1. Performing technical duties in all specialty service areas while adhering to accepted standards.
2. Ensuring proper maintenance, assembly, handling, and sterilization of instrumentation.
3. Following aseptic techniques and proactively addressing any issues related to contamination.
4. Conducting surgical counts and reporting discrepancies appropriately.
5. Assisting in the preparation, handling, and labeling of surgical specimens.
6. Planning and setting up instruments, supplies, and surgical drapes for optimal accessibility.
7. Supporting the surgical team and responding to surgical emergencies as needed.
8. Mentoring Surgical Technician Trainees and acting as a preceptor when necessary.

Qualifications:

• No specific education requirement as long as other qualifications are met.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
• Graduation from an accredited Surgical Technology or Nursing Program, or Military Training Program in Surgical Technology, or equivalent experience.
• 0-3 years of relevant professional experience.
• Strong communication skills and excellent organizational abilities are essential.
