The Discovery Biotherapeutics/Lead Discovery and Optimization team at Bristol Myers Squibb is seeking a highly motivated undergraduate intern to support a collaborative research initiative between the Membrane Protein Structural Biology group and the Computational Predictive Design team. The intern will contribute to an AI/ML-driven protein optimization project and support the design, production, and characterization of challenging protein targets. This role offers hands-on experience in protein biochemistry, exposure to computational design workflows, and the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge therapeutic discovery efforts.

The full-time internship will take place June - August 2026 Key Responsibilities:

• Perform rapid construct screening, and express and purify recombinant protein constructs in both small and milligram scale.
• Contribute to the design of protein constructs using protein visualization tools (Pymol and Chimera) and AI/ML techniques (ProteinMPNN, Alphafold, etc).
• Analyze and characterize proteins to ensure sufficient quality for downstream biophysical and structural biology experiments such as SPR and cryoEM.
• Document experimental procedures, results, and observations.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with multiple team members in the structural biology and computational groups.
• Communicate findings and progress in team meetings and presentations.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, or a related field.
• Basic laboratory skills and some experience with recombinant protein expression (E. coli or mammalian cells), purification (affinity, or size exclusion chromatography), and characterization (SDS-PAGE, analytical SEC, etc).
• Prior lab experience, academic or industry, is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

This is a temporary, time-bound position intended for the duration of the internship or co-op program. Employment in this role does not imply or guarantee ongoing or permanent employment with BMS.

The starting hourly compensation for this assignment is within the range of $27.00 to $29.00/hr. Please note that the final individual compensation and any applicable benefits will be determined by your employer of record (and not BMS). Factors influencing this decision may include the characteristics of the assignment, such as demonstrated experience, required skill, and the geographic location of the job. Compensation details are subject to change.
