L3Harris is seeking a Specialist, Tool Design Engineer to join our team at our growing AMF facility in Huntsville, AL. Tool engineers are responsible to define manual and semi-automated tooling such as jigs, fixtures, molds, mandrels, and lifting devices are all required in the fabrication and assembly of solid fuel rocket motors. The role of a Tool Engineer is mixture of design, structural analysis, project management and hands on manufacturing. In this role, the selected individual will be responsible for:

Essential Functions:

  Working with cross-functional teams define tool requirements.

  n

  Designing using PTC Creo and Windchill in accordance with principles of Design for Manufacturability

  n

• n

  Conducting design reviews with cross functional teams to obtain approval of tool designs.

  Oversee procurement/fabrication of tooling.

  n
n
• n

  Working with manufacturing engineers to perform functional evaluations and acceptance of the tooling.

  n

• n

  Performing liaison support for tool maintenance by identification of tool problems, design of repairs and implementation of modifications.

• n

  Use finite element analysis (FEA) methods and tools to perform structural analysis of tools in order to predict internal stresses and resolve structural instabilities.

  Apply GD&T and complex system tolerance analysis.

  n

• n

  Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

• n

  Ability to obtain a US security clearance.

  n

• n

  Travel: 5%.

Qualifications:

n
• n

  Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior mechanical engineering design experience; or a Graduate Degree, and a minimum of 2 years prior mechanical engineering design experience; or in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 8 years of prior mechanical engineering design experience.

• n

  2 years of prior experience specifically in design of tooling, ground support equipment, or special test equipment.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  Experience with Siemens NX is preferred.

  n

• n

  Experience with ANSYS is preferred.

  n

• n

  Fabrication experience is preferred.

  n
n
• n

  Composite Wind tool design and/or fabrication experience is preferred.

  Compression Mold tool design and/or fabrication experience is preferred.

  Experience working in the defense industry is desired.

  Active US Secret Clearance is desired.
