Software Development Director

The OCI Compute Control Plane team is at the center of many of OCI’s most critical business goals. We are challenged with scaling our services to meet growing demand, delivering critical features for our customers to help them manage their Compute instances, and delivering support for new HW platforms. We support both Bare Metal and Virtual machine instances across a diverse fleet of HW, including clustered GPU platforms. In addition, our customers demand high availability and security from our Cloud. We need a leader who can thrive in ambiguity, make data-driven decisions, and think critically about how to solve complex problems. We seek someone who can inspire others, and explain the “why” behind every project and every priority call.

The specific functions of this job will be managing service infrastructure and deployments, including architecting and delivering automated CI/CD pipelines to ensure minimize human intervention and customer impact through proper blast radius control. The role will involve building and executing on a hiring plan for the team, setting the strategic vision and near-term roadmap items, and executing on delivery in an efficient manner. The successful hire will have a passion for automation and preventing customer impact, but in the event operational issues arise, they will have the ability to quickly assess the impact and appropriate mitigation steps to restore service.

This position is expected to be onsite full time in Nashville, TN. This is not a remote position.

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $122,500 to $291,800 per annum. May be eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.

Responsibilities

• Lead organizational planning, including establishing team missions and KPIs

• Responsible for hiring plans and attainment of hiring goals

• Own service roadmap for assigned area, working with Product Management team

• Accountable for meeting service availability targets

• Build and maintain operational support structure for the service, including on-call rotations. Lead operational incidents to resolution as necessary.

• Deliver post-mortem analysis for operational incidents and drive necessary improvements in process and services to improve availability as a result.

Basic Qualifications:

• A Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline
• 10+ years of software management experience
• Sound fundamentals in algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis
• Experience with managing, designing, launching and maintaining distributed systems at scale
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages like Java, Python, Golang etc.
• Expertise in managing or building web applications, designing REST APIs and proficient in SQL, relational databases
• Experience managing multiple managers with an overall organization size of 20 plus individuals.
• Experience with building roadmaps and communicating strategy plans and vision

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with virtualization and orchestration stacks
• Experience with building and deploying software services with cloud infrastructure providers is a plus
• Experience managing distributed teams
