Gallagher is seeking an experienced and visionary Senior Director of Data Engineering to lead and shape the technical data strategy for our global organization. This role will oversee the design, development, and management of a scalable global data platform. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, proven leadership experience, and the ability to align data initiatives with business objectives.

• Define and execute the technical data strategy, ensuring alignment with the organization’s business goals and data strategy. This includes developing an overall global physical data model and developing patterns and practices for data engineering
• Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of data engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.
• Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of scalable, secure, and reliable data infrastructure, pipelines, and architecture.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to understand data needs and deliver solutions that drive business value.
• Establish and enforce best practices for data engineering, including data governance, security, quality, and compliance.
• Oversee development and design of our physical data model
• Evaluate and implement modern tools, technologies, and frameworks to enhance the data engineering ecosystem.
• Partner with data science, analytics, and business intelligence teams to ensure seamless integration of data workflows.
• Monitor and optimize the performance, reliability, and scalability of data systems and processes.
• Stay ahead of industry trends and emerging technologies to ensure the organization remains at the forefront of data engineering innovation.
• Manage budgets, resources, and timelines for data engineering projects and initiatives.

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Data Science, or a related field.
• 15+ years of experience in data engineering and architecture, with at least 7 years in a leadership role.
• Proven expertise in designing and managing large-scale data architectures and pipelines.
• Must have detailed experience in complex data modeling within an enterprise organization (preferably insurance or financial services) 
• Strong underrating of the patterns and practices of Business Intelligence and experience developing semantic models
• Experience developing CI/CD pipelines for data projects
• Detailed experience designing data platforms built within snowflake
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (preferably Azure) and their data services.
• Solid understanding of ETL/ELT processes, data modeling, and data architecture principles.
• Experience with data governance, security, and compliance standards.
• Experience working in Agile / Scrum based teams
• Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Strategic mindset with the ability to balance long-term vision with short-term execution.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with real-time data processing and streaming technologies
• Knowledge of machine learning workflows and their integration with data pipelines.
• Experience with Accord data models
• Certification in cloud platforms or data engineering tools.
• Experience in the insurance or financial services industry.

We offer a competitive and comprehensive compensation package. The base salary range represents the anticipated low end and high end of the range for this position. The actual compensation will be influenced by a wide range of factors including, but not limited to previous experience, education, pay market/geography, complexity or scope, specialized skill set, lines of business/practice area, supply/demand, and scheduled hours.
