Akron General's Emergency Department is a Level I trauma center that offers the technology, expertise, and staffing to treat all injuries regardless of severity. A caregiver in this position works 7:00am - 5:00pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
- Manage the practice of professional nursing and delivery of nurse care on an assigned unit.
- Establish clinical direction for nursing care delivery, provide clinical supervision and maintain quality outcomes.
- Collaborate with liaison departments in maintaining patient care standards.
- Identify and resolve issues affecting the delivery of patient care services in a unit.
- Develop quality initiatives and implement policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of health services.
- Develop and maintain unit related patient care standards through continuous quality improvement.
- Maintain Joint Commission and other regulatory standards.
- Manage the operation of unit.
- Analyze personnel structure, determine staffing needs and mix.
- Provide direction and supervision, evaluate performance, conduct selection and termination processes and develop strategic plans.
- Actively promote caregiver and self-development.
- Participate in clinical nursing research and support foundation research activities.
- Direct unit participation in the evaluation of new products.
- Approve purchases and establish or revise inventory quotes.
- Assist in the development and monitoring of budget.
- Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN).
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Three years of recent clinical nursing experience including at least one year of healthcare management experience.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) upon hire or within one year of employment.
- Completion of a Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC - adult) or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC - pediatric) upon hire or within 24 months of employment.
- Master's degree in nursing (MSN).
- Leadership experience in an adult inpatient/acute care setting.
- Requires full range of motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye and hand coordination.
- Requires frequent data entry, sitting, standing and walking.
- Requires corrective vision and hearing to normal range.
- Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
- Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
- Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
