Townsen Memorial Health Medical Records Specialist

Townsen Memorial is hiring for a full-time medical records specialist for our Katy TX 77449 location. The medical records specialist is responsible for ensuring that all patient records and loose documents are scanned into the computer system with the highest level of quality possible. The medical records specialist is responsible for indexing all documents to the appropriate patient folder and for ensuring the document is correctly assigned the appropriate name. The medical records specialist will also be responsible for ensuring workflow of the processing unit education/training within the unit and quality control.

Essential functions include: reviewing scanned images, indexing documents to correct encounter and document type, assuring each document is indexed to the correct patient, identifying when it is appropriate to split and merge documents, correctly inserting pages/documents when and where appropriate, correctly appending pages/documents when and where appropriate, performing quality reviews of prepping/scanning output, indexing analysis, and client interaction work products as applicable to their section to ensure the quality of images being produced, reviewing assigned work daily and ensuring timely processing of all assignments, generating performance reports as needed, providing education to the processing work unit for both new and existing employees, serving as a resource person for the processing work section on forms procedures and workflow, maintaining master forms index and ensuring processing work section is educated on new forms as they are published, responsible for maintaining and cleaning of high-speed scanners, troubleshooting scanner errors and providing minor repairs, performing daily reconciliation of all discharged accounts and ensuring all records are received and processed timely, performing other related duties as assigned to support the hospital.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include demonstrating critical thinking skills, ability to organize and respond to urgent or emergent situations, demonstrating decision-making skills based on accurate information and/or analysis of data, knowledge of all the components of a medical record, familiarity with physician signatures and physician service codes, understanding and working knowledge of HIPAA medical privacy regulations and practices, excellent typing and 10-key speed and accuracy.

Education and experience include a high school diploma or GED, one (1) year of experience in a healthcare setting, current BLS or must be obtained within the first 90-day of employment.
