Responsibilities

We are seeking an Unarmed & Armed Public Safety Officer to help keep our community safe. Our goal is to offer Security Services worthy of premier healthcare. As such, we are committed to providing a safe environment for our patients, their families and guests, and our staff and neighbors. This individual will:

• Patrols facilities and property making observations to detect unauthorized persons or activities, unsafe conditions, and ensuring life safety standards are maintained.
• Maintains appropriate communication with Supervisors, fellow Officers, Security Operations Center, and Law Enforcement to report crimes, incidents, and safety related irregularities.
• Responds and intervenes in confrontations and restrains violent or disoriented persons as lawfully directed, providing support to clinical team as patient emergencies arise.
• Observes the necessary safety precautions and established protocols for observations, holds, and patient restraints in accordance with federal, state, and organizational mandates to ensure a safe work environment.
• Administers initial first aid as appropriate and to the level of training attained.
• Investigates and documents, through both written and electronic format as required: Safety hazards, incidents and criminal activities to Public Safety Leadership, Risk Management, Safety Team, and Law Enforcement and other appropriate agencies as determined by Emory Health Care, department policy, or state law.
• These may include transport and release of bodies from the morgue; patient escort; elevator recall checks; monthly fire extinguisher, panic alarm, and intercom checks; and special event setups. Interviews and investigates individuals involved in suspicious or illegal activities.
• Detains unauthorized individuals as defined by policy or state law and releases them to the proper authorities.
• Officers are required to use force when appropriate to protect our customers and associates within organization policy.
• Maintains annual proficiency with issued firearm and less-than lethal equipment.

Minimum Qualifications for Unarmed Public Safety Officers

• Minimum of one (1) year experience in a customer-focused service-based organization, public safety, or military.
• Must complete EHC PS Basic Officer Course upon hire and FEMA IS 100 & 200 within 12 months.
• Must obtain IAHSS Basic within 12 months; CPI or Equivalent within 12 months; BLS Certification within 12 months.

Minimum Qualifications for Armed Public Safety Officers

• Two (2) consecutive years of armed security, military, or law enforcement experience within the last 7 years.

Must Have

• Possess(ed) a POST certification; OR Have been registered through a military (DD214 or current Military ID); All active, reserve, retired or honorably discharged military personnel will meet the licensing/certification requirement. OR Federal, state, or local firearms licensing certification (Department of Homeland Security, NASA, NRA, GBI, or Secretary of State)
• Must successfully complete the Basic Security Officer and Firearms course mandated by the Secretary of State within 3 months post-hire.
• Must be able to successfully complete training to carry non-lethal weapons such as a Taser (CED) and/or a baton within 3 months post-hire.
• Must possess a valid Georgia driver's license and have a clean driving record with no recent history of major traffic violations.
• Must be able to operate a company vehicle when required.
• Must pass a psychological exam.
• Must obtain IAHSS Basic certification within 12 months.
• Obtain a BLS certification within 12 months.
• Complete FEMA IS 100, 200, 700 & 800 within six (6) months.
