Electric Utility Distribution Engineer

This position offers remote-working capabilities, but candidates must be located in the greater New Orleans area for on-site support to our local utility customer. The selected candidates will be expected to attend in-person meetings and assignments throughout the customer territory as required.

Your Responsibilities as a Distribution Engineer:

• Design engineering for Leidos' electric utility customers and perform individual design tasks alongside quality control efforts within your group.
• Contribute to team work packages covering OH, UG, URD, Make Ready, and Street Light projects utilizing customer GIS and Work Management systems.
• Collaborate with other engineers and design leads on broad client issues, focusing on schedule adherence and team quality control; manage scope, schedule, and budget of assigned work.
• Review engineering design packages with clients; perform functional tasks, planning, and customer follow-up.
• Conduct scope analysis of assigned work and maintain schedule adherence to prioritize client needs.
• Initiate continuous improvement in workflow processes that enhance efficiency and maintain high-quality client design deliverables.
• Coordinate field engineering design requirements, developing comprehensive design packages for complex cable/conduit projects in densely populated urban areas, including work permit development, easements, and ROW applications.
• Be comfortable in both field and office settings, as the role may require customer-site visits to collect necessary field data.
• Be available for customer-facing activities and/or meetings as required (Job-related travel will be reimbursed at IRS-approved rates).

What Leidos Needs From You:

• A minimum of 2 years of relevant experience working directly with electric utilities or consulting companies in electric distribution design.
• BS in an Engineering discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Industrial preferred) from an ABET accredited program; additional relevant experience may substitute for a degree .
• Proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
• Knowledge of structural analysis, guying calculations, cable pulling calculations, coordination of protective devices, and electric demand and fault current calculations.
• Reliable transportation as customer-related travel may be anticipated (Job-related travel will be reimbursed at IRS-approved rates).
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in cost estimation, BOM development, calculating CIAC.
• Proficiency in MicroStation for Electrical Distribution design.
• Familiarity with work management software and job estimating tools.
• Experience with CAD tools.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $57,850.00 - $104,575.00
