nJob Summary/Purpose
nThe Civil/Structural Engineer in Substation Design within Transmission Engineering works in conjunction with other engineering disciplines and team members to achieve stated project goals. The Civil/Structural Engineer focuses primarily on the planning, scoping, estimating, and design of civil and structural elements and activities. These activities include but are not limited to:

Order and utilize topographic property surveys

Order and utilize geotechnical studies
n n - n
Order and utilize drainage/flood studies
n n - n
Design site grading & drainage plans, sections, and details for site packages
n n - n
Design foundation details based on structure reactions
n n - n
Calculate structure load reactions and design modifications to meet load requirements
n n - n
Design steel structure details
n n - n
Work in conjunction with environmental teams to design oil containment (if applicable)

Job Duties/Responsibilities

Performs a wide variety of detailed engineering analysis in Transmission-related areas such as planning, maintenance, design, project management and construction, and operations.
n n - n
Uses engineering/technical principles, best practices, and knowledge of internal and external business issues to solve problems, develop cost-effective, technically sound solutions, and improve products or services.
n n - n
Applies knowledge of engineering principles in evaluating alternatives, making decisions, and interpreting/employing applicable electrical codes, procedures, standards, processes, and policies.
n n - n
Supports activities to comply with applicable industry standards (i.e., NERC, SERC) and other utility regulations, as required.
n n - n
Works with other disciplines within the Transmission organization and other company business units to achieve stated goals.
n n - n
Assist with storm/emergency restoration efforts as necessary.
n n - n
Perform engineering activities associated with the physical design of high and medium voltage utility substations, including: site development, grading & drainage design, drainage/flood studies, geotechnical analysis, foundation design/calculation, structural analysis, etc. for internal substation related projects.

Work in a team environment to develop detailed engineering scope documents from a high-level functional document. This includes preparing cost and time estimates as needed.

Order and track the substation material and ensure timely delivery to appropriate staging areas.
n n - n
Oversee substation design contractor activities and perform thorough quality reviews of their design packages.
n n - n
Provide technical support during construction and commissioning of substation assets.
n n - n
Work with Design Basis and industry committees to develop and maintain substation design standards.

Minimum Requirements
nMinimum education required of the position
n- n
- n
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Discipline (typically Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Industrial) from a four-year accredited institution.
n n - n
Degrees in engineering technology (typically, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, and Industrial) from a four-year accredited institution with PE may be considered.
n n
Minimum experience required of the position
n- n

Engineer I - 0 to 2 years experience in an engineering discipline
n n - n
Engineer II - 2+ years experience in an engineering discipline
n n - n
Engineer III - 4+ years experience in an engineering discipline.
n n - n
Engineer Sr - 6+ years experience in an engineering discipline.
n n
Preferred/Desired :
n- n
- n
Structural design engineering experience.
n n - n
Transmission and/or Substation utility experience.
n n
