As an Advanced Systems Administration Specialist, you'll serve as a front-line interface to users with technical issues by conducting systems analysis and development to keep systems current with changing technologies. Your duties may include installing new software, troubleshooting, granting permissions to applications and training users. You'll also be responsible for the day-to-day support of server services by performing server administration for physical and virtual server operating systems and configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting of physical and virtual hardware and network related interfaces on servers. And, you'll perform OS and vendor software patching on servers and monitor physical and virtual servers performance using monitoring tools.

The Sys-Admin role provides information system solutions, and technical support to GDMS and our clients. Responsibilities include personal computer and client server support, systems administration of Linux based physical or virtual servers, applications support, storage support and system security. In this capacity, the successful candidate will:

• Perform administration of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Oracle Linux, versions 7/8/9
• Confirmed with AZ104 class or other Azure type certification
• Troubleshoot problems with Linux based systems understanding the difference between kernel and application related issues
• Linux kernel understanding to analyze cpu and memory performance
• Know how to determine a system related error via a system call or a signal parameter
• How do Linux system signals work
• Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot physical hardware including Dell and Nutanix servers, both rack mounted and blade
• Knowledge of interacting with an artificial intelligence chatbot
• Python or Ansible scripting ability
• Scripting ability in a Linux shell to automate repetitive processes
• Work with customers to identify, isolate, and resolve problems with Linux servers
• Perform administration of virtualized Linux servers via Nutanix Acropolis web client
• VMware will be considered
• Perform analysis and logging of Host Intrusion Detection Systems tools like Splunk alerts
• Monitor system and vendor management performance using tools like Grafana
• Experience with internal Linux tools for performance like SAR, vmstat, and top
• Understand and use "ps" command options to help with performance isolation
• What the /proc file system is for and how it can be used
• Perform periodic security patching of servers based on recommended patch sets using RHEL Satellite tools
• Work with security compliance tools on Linux OS and support security remediation
• Solid understanding of how to configure, maintain and validate the Linux environment so that it is fully compliant to pass cyber security audits
• Demonstrated expertise configuring, managing, and troubleshooting variations of DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, Networking
• Expertise with data center level backup systems & software, data storage solutions and legacy data center hardware/software solutions
• Strong troubleshooting skills within the Linux OS as well as network and storage
• Ability to work individually or collaboratively as part of a high-performance work team
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills
• Skilled at clear and concise written and verbal communication
• Knowledge and experience in the ITIL service framework a plus
• Familiar with Agile tools and methodology
• Additional Consideration: Red Hat or similar level of certifications
• Familiarity in these areas is a plus: Using or creating an AI Assistant, Grafana, Splunk, AWS Cloud support, ClearCase, Centrify/Delinea

Note: This position is full time remote but is East Coast hours and near Ashburn, VA or Pittsfield, MA.

What you bring to the table:

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related field or equivalent experience plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus 3 years of relevant experience
• Solid understanding of server based operating systems
• Enhanced troubleshooting skills within the server OS as well as both networking and storage technologies
• Working knowledge to create and run scripts to automate repetitive processes

Target salary range: USD $103,917.00/Yr. - USD $110,000.00/Yr. This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled.
