Job Location: Englewood, CO
Role Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled Video Subject Matter Expert (SME) with deep expertise in video encoding, streaming, and transport protocols. The SME will play a key role in guiding architecture, design, testing, and optimization of video delivery platforms. This individual will collaborate with engineering, product, and operations teams to ensure high-quality, low-latency, and standards-compliant video experiences across devices and networks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the technical authority on video compression and delivery standards, including MPEG-2, MPEG-4/H.264, H.265/HEVC, AV1, and related protocols.
- Provide expertise in streaming protocols such as HLS, DASH, RTP/RTSP, RTMP, and CMAF.
- Guide architecture decisions for video encoding, packaging, DRM, CDN distribution, and playback ecosystems.
- Evaluate and implement emerging video technologies (e.g., HDR, 4K/8K, low-latency streaming, adaptive bitrate optimization).
- Define best practices for QoE (Quality of Experience), buffering optimization, and error resiliency.
- Collaborate with QA and automation teams to ensure comprehensive test coverage for video workflows.
- Act as an escalation point for complex video playback or streaming issues.
- Support integration of video platforms with OTT, IPTV, DTC, and broadcast systems.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and training to engineering teams.
Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 7+ years of experience in video compression, delivery, and streaming systems.
- Hands-on knowledge of MPEG standards (MPEG-2 TS, MPEG-4, HEVC, AV1, AAC, Dolby).
- Strong understanding of video streaming protocols and adaptive bitrate delivery.
- Experience with video players, DRM integration, and CDN delivery workflows.
- Familiarity with Linux, C/C++, Python, or Java for video-related development/troubleshooting.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex video pipeline issues.
Preferred:
- Experience with cloud-based video delivery (AWS Media Services, Azure Media, GCP Video APIs).
- Knowledge of broadcast technologies (DVB, ATSC, SCTE standards).
- Familiarity with AI/ML-based video optimization and analytics.
- Contributions to video standards bodies or open-source video projects.

- Strong communication skills to bridge between engineering, operations, and business stakeholders.
- Ability to work in fast-paced, cross-functional environments.
- Passion for innovation in video technologies and user experience.
Salary and Other Compensation:
Applications will be accepted until September 24, 2025.
The annual salary for this position is between $66,896 K -$153,000 K depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant's applicable plans.
