nThe Test Instrumentation Engineer will:
n- n
- n
Mid-level Test Instrumentation Engineer in setup and operation of Optical Measurement Systems (ARAMIS, Video Image Correlation, Leica Laser Trackers), Instrumentation, and NASA Data Acquisition Systems for Structural Strength Testing.
n n - n
Setup, calibrate, and operate Trilion ARAMIS camera systems to measure 3D (X, Y, Z) position of discrete points.
n n - n
Setup, calibrate, and operate Trilion ARAMIS camera systems to measure full field of view strain and deflection of speckled area-of-interest.
n n - n
Setup, calibrate, and operate Correlated Solutions VIC-3D camera systems to measure full field of view strain and deflection of speckled area-of-interest.
n n - n
Interface ARAMIS and VIC-3D systems to ET30 SLTMAS data system software to record data in STLMAS dataset.
n n - n
Knowledge of required cameras, lighting, lenses, cabling, calibration techniques, and speckle patterns required to achieve customer-specified field-of-views and accuracies.
n n
Job Duties will include:
n- n
- n
Coordination with NASA project level customers across organizations to ensure mission success.
n n - n
Work with a diverse team of civil servants and contractors to design, develop, setup, and perform structural testing on space flight qualification hardware, and other mission critical hardware.
n n - n
Participate in a Beyond Zero Safety Culture, attend safety meetings, task meetings, design reviews, and test readiness reviews as requested to support ESSCA and customer requirements.
n n - n
Develop and deliver reports and presentations as requested to support ESSCA and customer requirements via Power Point and other various software packages.
n n - n
Perform safety and certification training to support ESSCA and customer requirements.
n n
Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering or related field is required. Degree from an ABET accredited university is preferred. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a Masters with at least 3 years of experience, or BS with at least 5 years of experience in the aerospace field.
nThe ideal candidate will be an Engineer with a strong sampling of the following skills and a desire to learn in depth:

Familiarity with OSHA standards.
n n - n
Excellent verbal and writing skills.
n n - n
Experience with data acquisition system.
n n - n
Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new software applications.
n n - n
Basic instrumentation application - utilizing strain gauges, thermocouples, and displacement devices.
n n - n
Familiarity with Machine Vision Image Processing/Correlation concepts and methods.
n n - n
Experience with National instruments LabVIEW development software and or MATLAB for instrumentation acquisition and control.
n n - n
Code generation in Windows or Linux operating systems.
n n - n
Software quality control using QT or GTest libraries.
n n - n
Raspberry Pi/Arduino, Python or C#/C++.
n n - n
National Instruments Hardware.
n n - n
Desire to conduct detailed hands-on work in a Lab testing environment on sub scale models to full scale structures in some of NASA’s largest indoor and outdoor test facilities.
n n - n
Operation or development of Control Systems including feedback control loops.
n n
Essential Functions
nWork Environment
nOffice environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (<15%)
nPhysical Requirements
nRequires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (40%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities (10%).
nEquipment and Machines
nRequires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).
nAttendance
nNormal workday is from 7:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.
nOther Essential Functions
nThe ability to work independently with minimal supervision, to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
