The Fiber Sustainability Manager position helps manage and implement strategies that directly support the environmental performance and social responsibility of Smurfit Westrock's fiber sourcing and procurement. The role works closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with sustainability standards, certifications, and regulations, as well as to identify and pursue opportunities for continuous improvement and innovation. Responsibilities also include leading and supporting various initiatives and projects related to fiber sustainability, such as life cycle assessment, forest certification, responsible sourcing, and the circular economy. Additionally, the role works with regional fiber procurement teams, corporate legal, and internal audit to ensure alignment and compliance with internal Smurfit Westrock fiber procurement requirements including legal, system, sustainability, and best business practices. Our strong preference is for someone to be based out of our corporate headquarters in Sandy Springs, GA, but we are open to work from home candidates in AL, LA, who can be tied to a local Fiber Supply operation.

How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:

• Implement processes and monitor compliance of fiber sustainability policies, procedures, and best practices for Smurfit Westrock fiber procurement regional operations.
• Monitor, review and report on fiber sustainability performance, metrics, and goals, and communicate progress and challenges to senior management and other stakeholders.
• Manage and maintain fiber sustainability certifications, such as FSC, SFI, and PEFC, and ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
• Manage, train, and ensure compliance at the regional level, with Smurfit Westrock fiber procurement processes including sustainability requirements, procurement system procedures, and best business practices.
• Engage and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, such as suppliers, customers, NGO's, industry associations, and government agencies, to educate and advance fiber sustainability initiatives and address emerging issues and opportunities.
• Lead and support cross-functional teams and projects related to fiber sustainability and provide guidance and training to other staff as needed.
• Lead and support regions in preparation for internal and external fiber supply audits and related sustainability compliance activities.
• Support internal/external audits of Smurfit Westrock converting operations compliance to fiber certification standards.

What you need to succeed:

• Bachelor's degree in forestry, environmental science, or sustainability.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in fiber sustainability, wood fiber procurement, or forest management preferred.
• Strong knowledge of fiber sustainability standards, best management practices, certifications, and regulations, such as FSC, SFI, PEFC, and EUDR.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
• Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
• Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, & Word)
• Willingness and ability to travel domestically up to 40% of the time.
