About the Role:

As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional patient care by supporting our nursing staff and ensuring the Operating Room (OR) is well-prepared for surgical procedures. Your experience and skills will directly contribute to the success of our surgical team and the well-being of our patients.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the care team to establish and implement a tailored plan of care based on physician preference cards and current patient assessments.
• Communicate effectively to ensure safe and therapeutic care throughout the patient’s perioperative experience.
• Maintain and manage OR equipment and supplies, ensuring all instruments, sutures, and materials are prepared following aseptic techniques.
• Drape patients and assist the surgical team during procedures, contributing to effective surgical practices.
• Facilitate swift turnover of the OR between cases, enhancing efficiency and patient care.
• Propose changes to physician preference cards as per surgeons’ requests for improved surgical outcomes.
• Ensure a clean, safe, and orderly environment within the OR to promote patient safety.
• Participate in hospital-wide infection control initiatives and quality improvement processes.

Qualifications:

• High School diploma or GED is required.
• AHA BLS Provider CPR certification is required at hire.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in a Cardiac Operating Room is required.
• If you are an internal candidate, you must complete the MWHC CBOT competency training within 9 months in lieu of cardiac operating room experience.

• Clinical education and/or experience should meet one of the following criteria:
• a. Graduate from an accredited OR Technology, Surgical Scrub Tech, or Surgical Technology program (preferably six months of experience).
• b. Licensed Practical Nurse eligible to practice in Virginia with at least one year of operating room experience.
• c. Trained Scrub/Operating Room Tech with a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in a hospital operating room.
• Must achieve Certification as a Surgical Technologist within six months of hire.
• Registration with the Virginia Board of Medicine as a Surgical Technologist is required effective December 2021.
