The Senior Certified Medical Assistant performs patient care under the direction and supervision of the physician or advanced practice provider (APP) in an ambulatory setting. Acts as a leader to help drive quality care and a mentor for professional practice.

The schedule is Monday - Thursday, 8am-5pm and Friday, 8am-3pm

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

• Accountable to the Assistant Nurse Manager, Nursing Operations Manager, or Practice Manager for operational issues.
• Embraces and participates in quality initiatives, goal attainment, and clinical outcome process improvement activities.
• Supports and demonstrates effective and professional communication with patients and family members.
• Works collaboratively with the administrative and operations staff.
• Gathers patient data through interview and observation.
• Assists patients and families with preparation for examination.
• Assists the physician during examination and procedures.
• Demonstrates competency in specific tasks and skills as defined by the practice.
• Provides routine treatments and administers approved medication types as ordered by the provider.
• Enter medication, laboratory and diagnostic imaging orders into the electronic medical system under direction of a provider.
• Documents patient data, treatments, procedures, and patient education according to Orlando Health and department policy.
• Act as liaison on behalf of the patient to schedule or obtain specialty testing and consultations.
• Process incoming and outgoing calls independently and professionally using sound clinical judgment.
• Help develop and coordinate the orientation process for Medical Assistants and act as a preceptor as assigned.
• Support and help develop quality strategies within the practice.
• Facilitate and participate in the skills portion of the Annual Clinical Review for Medical Assistants.
• Collaborate with clinical leadership to assess ongoing competence of Medical Assistants.
• Lead and participate in departmental committees and special projects.
• Maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies and applicable laws.
• Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.

Other Related Functions

• Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide care and assess data appropriate to the age-specific needs of patients in the assigned department.
• Demonstrate awareness of medical/legal issues, patient rights and regulatory/accrediting standards.
• Use supplies efficiently.
• Assist business office with reception, scheduling, and discharge of patients as needed.

Qualifications

Education/Training

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school (or 5 years of verifiable applicable work experience in patient care setting) required.

Licensure/Certification

• Maintains current American Heart Association BLS Healthcare Provider Certification.
• Maintains current certification by one of the following agencies:
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) AAMA
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) AMT
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) NHA
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) NCCT

Experience

• Minimum three (3) years as Certified Medical Assistant.
