Primary Duties And Responsibilities

In this capacity, you will be responsible for safeguarding all assets, staff, and visitors in and around the Century Center Office. Security Officers are expected to conduct routine patrols, document all activities and incidents, and may assume leadership roles or perform other duties as assigned. Moreover, you will be required to enforce all applicable policies and state laws, adhere strictly to all guidelines, including those stipulated by state regulatory agencies. Ensuring the security of the staff after hours by properly securing the premises is also part of your responsibilities.

Job Qualifications

• Possess and maintain current certification: Guard Card, D.O.J. Chemical Agent, CPR, driver's license and BLS Certification (American Heart Association or Red Cross).
• Ability to clearly and concisely express ideas using appropriate vocabulary and spelling.
• Ability to complete continual training classes as required. (Training provided)
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with Thousand Oaks Primary & Specialty Care employees, Management, Security Management, Local Law Enforcement and surrounding community.
• Ability to independently resolve issues working within set policies and procedures.
• Ability to know and use available resources in order to solve problems.
• Ability to operate security related equipment and general office equipment.
• Ability to recognize the importance of dealing diplomatically with the public, and the importance of a good public appearance.
• Ability to relay information, either in writing or verbally, in a professional manner.
• Ability to see aspects of public relations in all facets of the job and the ability to understand the effects of actions on the entire organization.
• Demonstrated ability to assess problematic or emergency situations and plan / execute an appropriate solution based on established guidelines or policies.
• Knowledge and understanding of all Security Program operational policies and guidelines.
• Knowledge of applicable geography in order to expedite calls and to be an effective information source.
• Knowledge of penal and radio codes and language used in radio communications.
• Physical ability to handle various intervention incidents, including patient restraints and violent subjects.
• Physically able to perform sustained foot patrols, prolonged standing, lifting patients, and physically restrain patients or prisoners as necessary.
• Visual and hearing ability to detect and report unusual circumstances quickly and accurately.
• Working knowledge of security practices, protocols and techniques.

Position is subject to the California DMV's "Pull Notice System" and continued employment is contingent upon proof of a satisfactory driving record.

Senate Bill 525 was signed into law by Governor Newsom in October 2023. Starting July 1, 2025, SB525 sets a new $24 minimum wage for nonexempt healthcare workers and raises the exempt employee salary threshold to $1,440/week (equivalent to $6,240/month or $74,880/year). Healthcare workers are defined as employees who are involved in the provision of "health care services," which means "patient care-related services including nursing; caregiving; services provided by medical residents, interns, or fellows; technical and ancillary services; janitorial work; housekeeping; grounds keeping; guard duties; business office clerical work; food services; laundry; medical coding and billing; call center and warehouse work; scheduling; and gift shop work; but only where such services support patient care". Employees (career, contract, student, per diem) in the UCLA Health medical facilities (e.g. Ronald Reagan Medical Center, Santa Monica UCLA Hospital, Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital, etc.) meet these criteria.
