Position Overview

This is a skilled position leading operation of an asphalt plant and loading out materials produced in the plant. The lead asphalt operator is responsible for the efficient working condition of plant equipment and is expected to perform maintenance or refer major problems to the supervisor. This position will require working at heights.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:

• Reads work schedules and determines sequence of operations.
• Scheduling the employees at the plant location.
• Determines what maintenance the plant requires and working with plant supervisor to arrange maintenance and service.
• Operates plant according to production schedule using appropriate materials.
• Monitor material operation to ensure quality of mix.
• Performs basic maintenance and service on plant as required.
• Ability to weld using an arc welder or cutting torch is preferred.
• Cleans control house and yard facility daily.
• Oversee truck scales and the loading of the trucks.
• Enters production information into computer systems.
• Other duties as assigned per supervisor.
• May be subject to drug testing, medical exams and physical agilities testing.

Education/Experience:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
• One to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Work Requirements:

• Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to write correspondences and memos.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
• Ability to work well with others in a group or one on one setting.
• To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Inventory and Order processing systems; uses job specific computer system for ticketing and two way radio for communications.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements:

• Must have a current and valid driver's license.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; outside weather conditions; and extreme cold and/or heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
