Cardiovascular Inpatient Unit Nurse Technician

6 North is a 38 bed Cardiovascular inpatient unit of Butterworth Hospital that specializes in caring for adult patients with Heart Failure, cardiac dysrhythmias, newly implanted pacemakers and defibrillators, pulmonary hypertension and cardiac conditions requiring medical treatment. Most patients receive continuous telemetry monitoring. Bedside care is provided by our team, 24 hours per day 7 days a week.

Individuals would want to work on this unit do to the large variety of cardiovascular and progressive care experiences that allow for a robust skill set. If they were to transfer to another unit, you would gain time management, proficiency in the management of patient with complex conditions. Some skills you can gain on this unit include, bipap, respiratory management, pulmonary hypertension treatments, management of multiple IV drips, heart failure management, telemetry monitoring. The culture of this unit is teamwork and support. Staff works closely with physicians and other healthcare providers and services to provide optimal care in the inpatient setting.

Scope of Work

Nurse Technicians act as a team member in the delivery of quality patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). Responsibilities include taking vitals, checking blood sugars, bed bathing, ambulating, wound care, catheterization and acting as a safety attendant for patients. Articulates the nursing technician role to the patient, family and health team members. Provides support to facilitate safe, quality patient care in a cost-effective manner. Cleans patient's environment / work area / equipment and communicates any equipment malfunctions to appropriate department / unit personnel. Demonstrates a high standard of moral and ethical behavior. Advocates for privacy, confidentiality and security of patient, staff and organization data.

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent experience
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification Within 90 Days
