Job Location: Duke Outpatient Clinic, 4220 N Roxboro St, Durham, NC

Job Summary: We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider in our Duke Outpatient Clinic located in Durham, NC to work in collaboration with attending physicians and Advanced Practice Providers to provide direct patient care services including but not limited to physical exams, collect & document data, order and conduct approved diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, order and schedule laboratory studies, order and/or conduct professional consultations and prescribe appropriate interventions and medications. The APP contributes to excellence in patient care, teaching, consulting, and provides leadership to the organization and healthcare professions.

Primary hours will be Monday through Friday, day shift, with hours flexible to meet the needs of the patients.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

• Independently provide initial and ongoing assessment and treatment of the patient's medical, physical, and psychosocial status, including the coordination of the activities of the primary health care team to ensure optimal patient care services.
• Take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and record the date in the patient's record; write progress notes in EPIC; prepare patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings; obtain psychosocial history relevant to patient care, and assume responsibility for developing therapeutic relationships with patients.
• Order and schedule laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures, such as labs, x-rays and referrals; explain necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient.
• Carry out therapeutic procedures such as placement or removal of implantable contraception devices, abscess incision and drainage, wound care, monitor progress of patients, report progress to supervising physician, and maintain record of each patient's progress, consulting with supervising physician when patient's progress does not meet anticipated and/or predetermined criteria.

• Participate in clinical research projects conducted by supervising physician. Additionally participate in teaching students and residents in techniques and procedures which are unique to specific clinical settings.
• Actively engage and participate in quality improvement projects.
• Help create effective systems and protocols to enhance the clinic's operations as needed.
• Take part in practice's conferences, DGIM Division meetings, and CMEs.
• Regularly participate in various relevant educational programs to ensure both technical and professional competence are maintained.

Job Eligibility Requirements:

Education:

• Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.
• Physician Assistants: Work requires completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree strongly preferred.

Certification:

• BLS required.

License:

• Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure & NP approval to practice in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. National certification as a NP required.
• Physician Assistants: Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. BLS required.

Experience:

• 2+ years of APP experience preferred.
