Medical Assistant

Position Summary: Responsible for care of patients and related medical and clerical support functions. These support functions will vary but will include accompanying patients to exam rooms preparing patients for exams performing and documenting vital signs assisting with procedures preparing and administering medications with physicians authorization performing EKGs using CPR skills when required drawing blood and providing patient education with regards to office policies medication and management of disease home treatments and special diets. Responsible for stocking exam rooms cleaning rooms cleaning instruments disposing of biohazard waste according to OSHA standards and performing accurate legal and ethical documentation at all times and adhering to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations. These duties will be performed for complex and specialized procedures across multiple EMR modules/platforms and coordinating multiple resources for patient services. Will also perform duties for prior authorization referrals (incoming/outgoing) good faith estimates and/or payment collections. Fully competent at performing the common tasks and responsibilities under general supervision this is the full level of proficiency that all employees are expected to achieve.

Qualifications: Education and Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent required. At least three (3) years of related customer facing healthcare experience with at least one (1) year scheduling or preregistering patients. Associates degree or Medical Terminology course completion preferred. License/Certification: Certification from nationally recognized agency required. Accepted agencies and certifications include: National Healthcareer Association Medical Assistant Certification (CCMA) American Medical Technologists Medical Assistant (RMA) National Center for Competency Testing National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) American Heart Association Healthcare provider course with Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required to be initially completed with the TH Organizational Development Office within 30 calendar days of hire date (exceptions to obtain certification from a provider other than the TH Organizational Development Office are approved by TH Organizational development on a case by case basis). BLS Recertification is required every two (2) years. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Computer knowledge required. Ability to demonstrate a high level of interpersonal skills required to interact with patients patients families/visitors and clinical staff including all levels of providers. Ability to perform with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Must be able to work independently with limited supervision. Phlebotomy skills and experience preferred. Physical Requirements: Light Physical Agility Test (PAT) Rating While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently (activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) required to stand sit and walk frequently to use hands fingers and frequently to talk or hear. The employee must exert up to 15 pounds of force occasionally (activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) and/or up to 5 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
