The successful candidate will have significant experience leading and managing the design of mechanical projects. As a member of our Infrastructure and Services Group you would contribute to CDM Smith's mission by:
- Under direct supervision, evaluate piping systems of basic complexity utilizing either computer aided pipe stress analysis software CAESAR II or Manual calculation method using tools such as Excel and MathCAD.
- Engineer and review pipe designs for compliance with ASME B31.3 - Process Piping. Familiarity with ASTM materials standards (ASTM A53, ASTM A106, ASTM A139, ASTM A234, ASTM A312, ASTM A403, ASTM A182, etc.) ASME Pipe Standards (ASME B31, ASME B36.10, ASME B16.11, ASME B16.9, ASME B16.5, ASME B16.47, ASME B36.19, ANSI MSS SP-58, etc.), AWWA (AWWA C200, AWWA C220, AWWA C207, AWWA M11, etc.), and international codes/standards are highly encouraged.
- Ensure that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs.
- Perform technical delivery for opportunities in the Water Treatment/Industrial/MEP/Facilities market space including: creating and evaluating mechanical and piping designs of basic complexity including: Understanding and Review of P&IDs Understanding of industrial equipment (pumps, rotating machinery, conveying equipment, etc.); Mechanical Systems (water, steam, compressed air, and co-generation systems).
- Performs site reviews and studies, as needed, to ensure designs are aligned with contract drawings and specifications. Update design requirements as necessary.
- Contributes to firm's technical knowledge by developing and expanding technical design methodology.
- May create or work with a team to create a poster or other presentation material for presentations.
- Performing other duties as required.
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Architectural or Chemical Engineering, or in Engineering Technology or related discipline. 0 years. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Proficiency in model and drawing development using Revit MEP and AutoCAD. Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Familiarity of ASCE 7 for the computation of seismic loads, wind loads, snow loads, etc. Design/Engineering of pipe supports.
Basic Knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices. Basic Knowledge of engineer principles of design. Knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.). Good written and verbal communication skills.
