Leidos' Defense Systems Persistent Surveillance Portfolio is looking for a highly skilled Lead Engineer to spearhead the technical execution of a large-scale U.S. Air Force radar program, which includes concurrent development, testing, production, and sustainment operations.

In this role, you will act as the technical authority across multiple product lines and configurations, ensuring design integrity and technical performance while executing disciplined engineering practices. We are seeking a systems-minded leader who can adeptly navigate immediate production needs alongside long-term technology advancements.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the overall technical execution and ensure system performance and compliance with requirements across various stages of the product lifecycle.
• Provide overriding technical direction to subsystem leads, Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), and specialty engineering disciplines to maintain design maturity and integration.
• Collaborate with the Chief Scientist to explore and integrate emerging technologies into production baselines.
• Maintain clearly defined technical baselines that are configuration-controlled and traceable throughout the design, testing, and production phases.
• Lead technical readiness assessments, design reviews, and engineering change processes in alignment with program goals and customer expectations.
• Work closely with Program Management, Operations, and Supply Chain teams to achieve cost, schedule, and manufacturability targets.
• Conduct trade studies, performance analyses, and design adjustments to enhance capability, reliability, and lifecycle supportability.
• Communicate technical progress, challenges, and opportunities effectively to senior leadership and government stakeholders.
• Mentor and develop engineering staff, cultivating a culture of innovation and collaboration.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, or a related Engineering field with 15-20 years of progressive engineering experience, including 5+ years in a lead or chief engineer role on large DoD or aerospace programs.
• OR a Master's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, or a related Engineering field with 13-16 years of progressive engineering experience, including 5+ years in a lead or chief engineer role on large DoD or aerospace programs.
• Demonstrated success in leading complex, multidisciplinary engineering teams through concurrent development, integration, testing, and production phases.
• Ability to balance long-term R&D investments with immediate production program needs.
• Strong system-level engineering expertise in requirements management, integration, and verification.
• Excellent technical judgment and the ability to communicate complex issues to diverse audiences.
• Experience with formal design review processes (PDR/CDR), configuration management, and risk management.
• Active DoD Secret clearance required.
• Candidates must be willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, or a related Engineering field.
• Experience with radar systems, EO/IR, or advanced sensing technologies.
• Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), digital engineering tools, and design-to-manufacturing workflows.
• Proven record of successfully transitioning technology from prototypes to production systems.
• Experience in leading cross-company or joint-service development efforts.

Pay Range: $148,850.00 - $269,075.00
