Laboratory Veterinary Assistant
Red Bank Veterinary Hospital (RBVH) proudly opened its new, state-of-the-art facility in May 2024an expansive, 100,000+ square foot space nearly twice the size of our original Tinton Falls location. This milestone marks the continuation of over 40 years of dedicated service to our community. Equipped with advanced diagnostics like MRI, CT, fluoroscopy, and a PET scanner, the hospital features 52 exam rooms, 12 surgical suites, a dedicated emergency department, and expanded training spaces. Thoughtful amenitiesincluding feline-only waiting areas, a rehab unit, comfort rooms, and a serene zen gardenreflect our commitment to exceptional care for pets and their families.
We are seeking a Laboratory Veterinary Assistant to join our team and support accurate, timely patient care. In this role, you will perform diagnostic testing, manage lab samples, maintain equipment, and communicate results to the clinical team.
Position Overview
The Laboratory Veterinary Assistant supports the clinical team by performing and managing diagnostic testing, including blood work, urinalysis, fecal floats, and specialized tests, as well as operating lab machines and submitting samples to reference labs. This role ensures proper specimen handling, maintains lab cleanliness, performs quality control, communicates results to doctors, and helps follow up on lab-related inquiries, contributing to accurate and timely patient care.
Compensation: $16-18/hr based on experience and accreditation. The final compensation offer will be based on the qualified candidate's experience and ability to make an impact coming into the role.
Anticipated Schedule: Full TIME Sunday Wednesday 12pm-10pm
Key Responsibilities
- Have a general knowledge of all test and normal values
- Report any abnormal values to requesting doctor ASAP
- Proper care and handling of all specimens and samples
- Maintain Laboratory Cleanliness
- Perform Daily Maintenance / Quality Control of Machines as indicated in Quality Control Log
- Submit samples to reference labs (Antech, Idexx, and others)
- Upload reference lab results into patient record
- Follow up any doctor inquiries regarding reference labs
- Communicate all issues that require follow-up (with reference labs, doctors, etc.) to clinical lead
- Run lab work on the following machines:
- Procyte
- Catalys
- VetStat
- NOVA
- SCA2000 Coagulation
- Snap-Tests
- Other tests:
- PCV / TS
- Canine & Feline Blood Typing
- Major Crossmatch
- Ethylene Glycol Toxicity Test
- Urinalysis / Keto-Diastix / Specific Gravity
- Fecal Float
- Derm-Duet Fungal Culture
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- At least ONE YEAR animal experience is REQUIRED to be considered for this role!
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus!
Preferred Qualifications:
- One year of experience working as a veterinary assistant in a busy Urgent Care or ER/Specialty hospital.
- CVA (Certified Veterinary Assistant)
