We are seeking a detail-oriented and adaptable Laboratory Technician to join our team. This role involves advanced manual processing in laboratory accessioning and data entry, resolving specimen and data-related issues, and supporting specialized areas through slide preparation and client liaison duties. A caregiver in this position works days, from 9:30am 6:00pm.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Receive and accession specimens into the LIS.
• Conduct higher level accessioning in the LIS including esoteric testing.
• Conduct advanced tracking investigations.
• Serve as a subspecialty client liaison.
• Be responsible for advanced problem solving/issue resolution (pending log/SERS/block QA).
• The following duties are specific to Anatomic Pathology: perform tasks involved with creating slides and/or cell blocks, perform frozen section processing (frozen section slide creation), create cell block slides, clinical histology tissue embedding, and assist in cytology adequacy assessments.
• Prepare specimens for analysis.
• Perform manual processing (centrifuge, aliquoting and routine maintenance).
• Run and resolve LIS logs.
• Retrieve, sort, track and deliver specimens.
• Perform logistic activities within and outside of lab.
• Use tracking software/devices.
• Comply with safety, SOP & regulations.
• Maintain appropriate documentation.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Associate degree (preferably in science)
• Two years of lab processing experience
• Four years of lab technician or comparable processing experience may substitute the education requirement
• Active enrollment in the Cleveland Clinic MLS program may substitute the education and experience requirement

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, physics or medical laboratory science. This may substitute the experience requirement

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to perform specimen handling techniques and to take measurements.
• Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.
• Ability to move throughout the department and hospital system.
• Handles and transports bio hazardous materials and potential carcinogens.
• Ability to differentiate color, hue, saturation and tones.
• Ability to live/move up to 50 lbs.

Personal Protective Equipment:

• Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as defined in the exposure control plan.
