The Health Economics And Market Access (HEMA) Manager supports Boston Scientific's innovative and fast-growing Peripheral Intravascular Lithotripsy (pIVL) division. This role is integral to executing HEMA strategies that demonstrate the value and enable adoption of pIVL technologies for the treatment of complex peripheral vascular disease. The role encompasses a full spectrum of health economics, market access, and reimbursement strategy and tactics across the pIVL portfolio, in close alignment with cross-functional partners and the broader HEMA team.
This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring employees to be in our Maple Grove, Minnesota office at least three days per week.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Lead the design and execution of health economics, market access, and reimbursement activities tailored to the unique value proposition of pIVL devices in the peripheral vascular space.
- Assess specific market access requirements for pIVL and implement strategies addressing coding, coverage, and payment across various sites of service, including hospital inpatient/outpatient and office-based labs.
- Support evidence generation strategies that capture the clinical and economic impact of pIVL, working in collaboration with HEMA, clinical, medical affairs, and R&D teams.
- Develop and refine value propositions that differentiate pIVL from conventional endovascular therapies, starting early in product development and continuing through commercialization.
- Build and maintain a comprehensive lifecycle strategy for pIVL economic evidence and access activities, enabling sustained reimbursement and market expansion.
- Collaborate with regional HEMA teams and commercial organizations to identify unmet evidence needs, create value communication tools, address health technology assessments (HTAs), and support local access solutions.
- Advance dissemination of economic and clinical evidence through peer-reviewed publications, scientific congresses (e.g., peripheral vascular, interventional cardiology), and targeted communication platforms.
- Establish and maintain relationships with payer representatives, professional societies, and clinical thought leaders to shape policies and support product access in the pIVL space.
- For qualified candidates, field-based responsibilities may include customer-facing discussions with clinicians, administrators, and payer stakeholders to communicate the economic and clinical advantages of pIVL.
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a health-related discipline such as health economics, public health, health policy, analytics, or healthcare administration.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in healthcare delivery, health plans, or medical device industrypreferably with exposure to vascular or interventional cardiovascular specialties.
- Strong understanding of U.S. reimbursement systems and policy frameworks, particularly as they relate to novel medical technologies.
- Familiarity with CMS payment programs and policies including the Physician Fee Schedule (PFS), OPPS, IPPS, Hospital Acquired Conditions (HAC) Reduction Program, and MIPS.
- Expertise in coding systems (CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10), payment classifications (MS-DRGs, APCs), and knowledge of site-of-service payment differentials relevant to pIVL.
- Experience with health economic analysis using large datasets or real-world evidence to answer payer-relevant questions.
- Working knowledge of hospital revenue cycle management and the financial implications of adopting new capital or disposable technologies.
- Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to lead multiple priorities concurrently.
Preferred qualifications:
- An advanced degree such as MPH, MHA, MBA, MS, or MSc in health economics, health services research, or related discipline.
- Outstanding communication skills and a track record of influencing strategic decisions at multiple levels within an organization.
- Ability to present complex economic data in a credible and engaging manner to diverse audiences, including clinicians, administrators, and payers.
- Proficiency with economic modeling and tools that communicate the financial and clinical value of pIVL to stakeholders.
- Ability to train field teams in value-based messaging and use of reimbursement tools in a compliant and impactful way.
- High emotional intelligence and customer orientation; able to elicit customer goals and priorities and address them with value-driven solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in ambiguous environments and adapt quickly to changes in market or policy.
- Experience working within functional and cross-functional teams, including regulatory, clinical, and commercial partners.
