Full-Time Surgical Technologist - Operating Room

Position Overview:
As a Surgical Technologist, you will work under the supervision of the Specialty Coordinator/Registered Nurse to assist nursing staff by monitoring changes in patient status and preparing the Operating Room (OR) with essential equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the care team to develop and implement the patient's plan of care based on physician preference, assessment findings, diagnostic reports, and best practices.
• Ensure patient safety and provide therapeutic care throughout the perioperative process.
• Maintain and manage necessary equipment and supplies by adequately preparing the OR with required instruments, sutures, and tools, following aseptic techniques.
• Assist in draping patients and support the surgical team throughout procedures.
• Help with the turnover of the operating room between surgeries.
• Provide insights for updates to physician preference cards as requested by surgeons.
• Maintain a clean and organized environment in the OR.
• Participate in hospital-wide infection control measures and quality improvement initiatives.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High School diploma or GED is required.
• AHA BLS Provider CPR certification is required at the time of hire.
• At least 1 year of experience in a Cardiac Operating Room is required.
• If you are an internal applicant, you must complete the MWHC CBOT competency training within 9 months if you do not have cardiac operating room experience.

• Clinical education and/or experience must meet one of the following criteria:
• a. Graduate from an accredited program in OR Technology, Surgical Scrub Technology, or Surgical Technology (six months experience preferred).
• b. Licensed Practical Nurse eligible to practice in Virginia, with one year of operating room experience.
• c. Trained Scrub/Operating Room Tech with a minimum of seven years of experience in a hospital operating room.
• Certification as a Surgical Technologist is required within 6 months of hire.
• As of December 2021, registration with the Virginia Board of Medicine as a Surgical Technologist is mandatory.
