Summary/General Description Of Job:
nThe Forklift Mechanic diagnoses, adjusts, repairs and overhauls Material Handling Equipment (MHE), including forklifts, pallet jacks, aerial boom and scissor lifts.
nnEssential Duties & Job Functions:
n§ Repairs and maintains the operating condition of Material Handling Equipment (MHE) including forklifts pallet jacks ranging from 2,000 to 70,000 lb. capacity, aerial boom and scissor lifts.
n§ Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.
n§ Dismantles and reassembles equipment to OEM specifications and Navy standards, using various lifting equipment, hand and pneumatic tools.
n§ Basic rigging procedures may be required.
n§ Examines equipment and parts for damage and wear using calibrated measuring tools.
n§ Repairs and replaces electric, diesel, propane or gasoline MHE and components such as air systems, cooling systems, starting and charging systems.
n§ Repairs vehicle chassis, electrical systems, drive trains, brake systems, and hydraulic systems.
n§ Repairs and rebuilds broken parts and structural members using welding and other fabrication techniques.
n§ Operates and inspects machines and equipment to diagnose component defects and performs repairs.
n§ Identifies and researches replacement parts for order.
n§ Performs other related duties as assigned.
nnMay perform work in other classifications when incidental work is necessary to the accomplishment of the work assignment. Significant work in another job classification may be required if accompanied by any wage adjustments applicable.

n§ The proper use of tools and equipment commonly used in the mechanic field.
n§ Completing all mandated training requirements per government and management directives.
n§ Timely and cost effective performance of duties.
n§ Timely completion and accuracy of all departmental work.
n§ Dealing with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.
n§ Adherence to established company safety policies and good industrial and office safety practices.
n§ Compliance with company Standard Operating Procedures and Personnel policies and procedures.
n§ Having the ability to work well under pressure.
