Fermentation Technician

The Fermentation Technician will be responsible for producing microbial products for the food, biofuels, and pharmaceutical industries using the fermentation process. The role involves following specific work instructions and batch records to scale up microbes, performing media and microbial solution preparation, and utilizing large-scale fermenting instrumentation and equipment.

Responsibilities include:

• Following specific work instructions and batch records to scale up microbes.
• Performing media and microbial solution preparation.
• Utilizing large-scale fermenting instrumentation and equipment.
• Applying aseptic technique on a daily basis.
• Conducting sterilization, inoculation, and product recovery as needed.
• Tracking total product from start to finish, including recovery, total yield, and quantities per each processing step.
• Performing simple testing on in-process and finished product samples using instruments such as GC/HPLC, Karl-Fisher, optical density, pH, and microscope for counts/possible contamination.
• Operating the CIP system for sanitation and processing.
• Maintaining production, analytical, and quality documentation.
• Utilizing the SAP system.

Essential skills include:

• Ability to operate fermentation equipment and understand the fermentation process.
• Proficiency in basic lab testing on microbial solutions.
• Experience or understanding of aseptic techniques.

Additional skills and qualifications are:

• Degree or background in Biology, Microbiology, or Fermentation is advantageous.
• Experience in food, manufacturing, fermentation, or as a chemical operator.
• Familiarity with chemicals, SOP, and CIP systems.

The role is based at a microbial manufacturing site with a lab, working alongside other fermentation professionals to scale up microbes for customers. The position involves a night shift on a 12-hour rotating schedule, from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Candidates will work with three to five others in the fermentation area and in the lab for microbial solution preparation and basic analytical testing. The employer offers strong benefits and competitive pay based on performance, with a $4 shift differential once transitioning to the night shift.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin.

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $30.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Menomonee Falls, WI.
