Job Summary

The Executive Director, Foundation Operations, is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Wellstar Foundation, ensuring operational excellence, and driving strategic growth. This position will play a critical role in building a robust government grants program, a significant funding source for Wellstar. This role involves overseeing the Foundation's operations, including strategy development, gift processing, database management, and financial reporting, while ensuring compliance with grant agreements. The position also focuses on securing over $20M annually in government grants by identifying funding opportunities and managing the application and reporting processes. Additionally, the role plays a key part in shaping and implementing the Foundation's strategic plan, working cross-functionally to advance the mission. Leadership responsibilities include mentoring and guiding a team of Foundation professionals to achieve these goals.

Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions

Government Grants Program

• Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to secure $20M+ in annual government grant funding
• Identify, research and pursue relevant government funding opportunities at the local, state and federal level
• Oversee the application, implementation and reporting processes for all grants
• Collaborate closely with stakeholders across the Wellstar System to identify and leverage funding opportunities

Financial functions, fund management and reporting

• Work with VP, Strategy & Growth in development of annual budget
• Oversee all processing of gifts and monthly balancing with Finance
• Manage Emergency Assistance Fund Center for Family Resources relationship and transactions
• Prepare monthly financial reports and coordinate annual audit
• Oversee endowment investments and coordinate Foundation Finance committee
• Report to Board of Trustees on Foundation financials
• Oversee all purchase orders and invoices
• Track all operating expenses
• Manage and monitor Foundation policies, including development of new policies as needed

Wellstar system collaborations

• Oversee funding implementation of key programs across the Wellstar system
• Collaborate with Hospitals, service lines and departments on funding needs and spending
• Manage the funding opportunities which includes development, tracking and evaluation with the service lines and finance
• Research foundations and corporations to identify strategic alignment and funding opportunities
• Oversee management and tracking of grant funds received

Donor & prospect management

• Manage CRM platform
• Oversee the development of donor profile research, corporate, organization and foundation research
• Manage strategic development of donor segments increases, repeat donations and ROI of messaging
• Oversee Grateful Patient pull and funnel dashboard
• Perform data analysis on donor segments and designation performance

Team leadership and management

• Lead team to successfully carry out responsibilities that support the growth of the Wellstar Foundation
• Provide opportunities for professional development and mentorship

Drive development and implementation of Foundation strategic plan

• Collaborate with Foundation Vice President, Strategy & Growth to develop and maintain Foundation strategic plan
• Collaborate with Vice President, Philanthropy in supporting development team
• Work with Foundation President to build strong Foundation Board of Trustee engagement

Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

Required Minimum Education

• Bachelors Business Administration/Management or Bachelors Other

Required Minimum License(s) And Certification(s)

All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.

Additional License(s) And Certification(s)

Required Minimum Experience:

• Minimum 7 years experience in operations
• Minimum 5 years management experience
• Healthcare and/or Fundraising/Development
• Required

Required Minimum Skills

• Expert level experience with Microsoft Office, spreadsheet analysis, budget development, financial reporting, communication, and negotiation skills are required.
• Ability to deliver key messaging to a variety of audiences in both public and private events and meetings
• Medium Preferred Skills: Proficiency in Raisers Edge and familiarity with grant research/reporting, licensing and contracts and legalities of gifts/investments preferred
