Environmental Engineering Intern - Environmental Services (Austin)

Description

An Intern will work collaboratively with our teams to support a Burns & McDonnell Department, Global Practice or Regional Office. This position will provide support and assistance with requests in support of the business strategy. Our Engineering Interns are responsible for performing tasks requiring the application of standard engineering techniques and procedures. This includes standard design of engineering systems, correcting and updating designs, assisting lead engineers with various project duties, and other duties as assigned.

Specific assignments and project work vary depending on the market segments. Please see below for information on each market:

Air Quality

Our Air Quality interns are responsible for performing tasks requiring the application of standard engineering techniques and procedures. This includes quantifying air pollutant emission rates based on process design and operating information. Our interns also assist in developing application documents to obtain air permit authorizations for complex industrial and manufacturing processes and projects.

Remediation

Our Remediation interns support projects addressing environmental contamination from legacy operations or recent releases. They assist with site investigations, hazardous material assessments, and remedial design. Interns also contribute to risk assessments, emergency response efforts, and the implementation of sustainable remediation strategies tailored to site-specific conditions.

  Assist with tasks that may include filing, scanning, data entry, documentation, Power Point presentation.

  Assist with responses to general questions.

  Participate in continuous improvement efforts by collecting and analyzing data.

  Present solutions to concerns.

  Research solutions to project concerns; analyze and recommend solutions to problems.

  Assist with ad hoc projects as assigned by managers.

• n

  Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.

  Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.

  Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently (i.e., without time limitations, without restrictions or without need for work sponsorship) in the country where this position is located.

Qualifications

n
• n

  Pursuit of Bachelor's degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering or related degree from an accredited program.

  Currently enrolled, and in good standing, in a post-secondary education and/or technical certificate program in a field related to the work done in the department.

• n

  Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.

  n

• n

  Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.

  n

• n

  Actively involved in campus, community or other volunteer activities or organizations.

  n

• n

  Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  n
n
• n

  Strong problem solving and analytical skills.

  n

• n

  Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs, including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

  Demonstrated leadership skills.

• n

  Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.

  Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.
