Emergency Department Paramedic

Summary:

The Emergency Department Paramedic is a vital member of the hospital's patient care team, working collaboratively with nursing staff to provide exceptional care. Under the clinical supervision of a licensed physician, the Paramedic plays a crucial role in delivering advanced life support, administering medications, and conducting thorough patient evaluations based on established skills. This position requires a commitment to maintaining a clean, organized, and safe patient environment while assisting with nursing responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

• Effectively operate patient monitoring equipment, recording rhythm strips, performing 12-lead EKGs, and conducting biomarker and glucometer readings under physician direction.
• Perform phlebotomy, collect laboratory specimens as needed, and insert saline locks, Foley catheters, and nasogastric tubes under supervision.
• Assist in comprehensive patient care, documenting vital signs, providing personal hygiene support, and maintaining respectful communication with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
• Ensure a clean and safe working environment while managing all assigned supplies and equipment.
• Show proficiency in setting up and executing procedures as delegated.
• Transport patients to radiology and nursing units using appropriate monitoring and transport equipment (excluding ICU).
• Adhere to the hospital's defined job description and competencies at all times.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the healthcare team.

Requirements:

Education/Skills:

• High School Diploma.

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:

• Valid Driver’s License in the state of employment.
• Current EMT-P License in the state of employment.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
