The selectee will be assigned to Marine Base Quantico, in Quantico, VA. This position is scheduled to relocate to Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, AL in approximately fall of 2027. The position and/or relocation date is subject to change based on construction timelines and mission needs.

Locations: Huntsville, AL/ Quantico, VA
Working Hours: 8:00am - 5:00pm, but hours may vary

As an Electronics Engineer you will/are:
GS 7:
- Perform preliminary engineering analysis by using test equipment to evaluate, test, modify, redesign simple electrical and mechanical systems.
- Work with other fields of engineering including electrical and mechanical systems, manufacturing, installation, and operating procedure of electronic equipment and support systems.
- Work with others to obtain or provide data or information.
- Prepare documentation in both technical and layman terminology
- Prepare clear and concise reports and documentation in both technical and layman terminology.
- Identify, evaluate, and characterize unknown electronic devices under the guidance of senior engineering staff.
- Develop basic vulnerability research engineering skills related to hardware and software on commercially available electronic devices.
- Process evidence using specialized tools, with occasional requirements to testify to work done.
- Create and execute examination plans in order to identify, evaluate, and characterize unknown electronic devices.
- Independently perform basic vulnerability research and reverse engineering tasks related to hardware and software security mechanisms on commercially available electronic devices to gain lawful access to their contents.
- Develop software tools to support repeatable execution of processes developed.
- Take manufacturers and/or contractors' specifications and conduct a simple test, evaluation, modification by comparing with the previous designs for similar equipment.
- Conduct a range of analytic procedures in a variety of settings, including examinations to identify and characterize complex evidence.
- Prepare comprehensive reports which convert complex technical findings into a format understandable by non-technical individuals and provide expert testimony regarding results of interpretations.
- Analyze complex materials and to recommend modified analytical and/or technical procedures.
- Provide case reports and respond to requests for consultation and advice.
- Conduct a range of analytic procedures in a variety of settings, including examinations to identify and characterize complex evidence.
- Prepare comprehensive reports which convert complex technical findings into a format understandable by non-technical individuals and provide an overview regarding the results.
- Analyze complex materials and to recommend modified analytical and/or technical procedures.
- Prepare clear and concise reports and/or professional papers and documentation and respond to requests for consultation and advice.
- Act as a subject matter expert in hardware reverse engineering, acquisition and exploitation of exemplars, vulnerability assessment, development of proof-of-concept systems, and bench testing/IV&IV.
- Evaluate proposals for operational and financial cost-benefit of utilizing existing solutions vs. development of custom products; technology capabilities; deployment timeline; etc.
- Prototype circuits/hardware systems and controllers to interface with other development teams and subsystems; design, deploy and operate command and control (C2) systems; interface with radio or networking systems and controllers; etc.
- Utilize networking, computer, and information technology hardware/systems to interface with test and operational equipment; work collaboratively with interdisciplinary technical and investigative teams to configure deployment systems and enable collection; develop test plans and present results; troubleshoot field deployments, etc.
- Serve as a Senior Engineer supporting unit operation to include analysis, testing, and exploitation for advanced electronic surveillance (ELSUR). Provide guidance and technical leadership to other hardware and software developers throughout development lifecycle.
- Providing oversight and facilitating collaborative efforts with other engineers and technical personnel.
- Coordinate complex technical operations with entities both internal/external to the FBI, industry, etc. and briefs partners, management, and operational personnel on key decision points, risks, mitigating factors, etc.
- Develop cost estimates and resource requirements; make recommendations for initiation, modification or abandonment of projects; guides and leads teams undertaking major engineering projects; and provides input to management about engineering technical performance. May serve as Contracting Officer's Technical Representative (COTR) on contracts utilized to develop customized advanced hardware and software capabilities.

To be acceptable, the curriculum must: (1) be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statistics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of material (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable areas of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat
