Director - Nursing Hematology/Oncology

The Hematology/Oncology Care Unit (HCU) includes inpatient and outpatient services for Hematology, Oncology, and Blood and Marrow Transplant patients. The 32-bed inpatient unit admits children of all ages with hematological and/or oncology needs, working closely with the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders Clinic and Infusion clinic.

Significant populations include:

• Newly diagnosed oncology diseases (leukemia/lymphoma, solid tumors, neuro-oncology)
• Chemotherapy
• Sickle cell disease
• Pain crisis in hemoglobinopathy
• Fever/neutropenia
• Bacteremia
• Anemia/blood disorders
• Acute chest syndrome/pneumonia
• Thrombocytopenia
• Blood and marrow and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation

The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders Outpatient and Infusion Clinic, located adjacent to the unit, coordinates outpatient care including routine visits, outpatient treatments like chemotherapy, blood transfusions, apheresis, extracorporeal photopheresis (ECP), and long-term follow-up.

The Director of Nursing oversees the operations of a department or function within the health system, ensuring quality patient outcomes through leadership of staff, resources, budget, and processes. The role may include managing multiple departments impacting operations.

Minimum Education
Master's Degree or BSN if the Master's is not in Nursing (Required)
MSN (Preferred)

Minimum Work Experience
10 years nursing experience, including 7 years of progressive supervisory/management experience (Required)

Strong understanding of JCAHO and other regulatory requirements

Required Licenses and Certifications
Registered Nurse in District of Columbia (Required) or licensure in the state of practice or supervision (Required)
