Commercial Driver

Island Disposal , a Waste Connections company, is seeking a passionate Commercial Driver to join our growing team!

Start your week with a reliable schedule from Monday to Friday, beginning at 5:30 AM. Enjoy a competitive starting pay of $25.50 per hour, with an opportunity for a $1/hr increase after six months based on positive performance reviews.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Safely operate a garbage truck along designated routes to collect solid waste.

• Efficiently read route sheets and provide service to each customer listed or assigned by the dispatcher.

• Conduct routine inspections and maintenance on vehicles, including checking fluids, safety equipment, and tires.

• Perform a physically demanding job, including loading and unloading, occasionally without assistance.

• Engage courteously with our customers and perform additional job-related duties as needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

• This role involves extensive physical activity, requiring heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects over 50 pounds.

• Work environment may present some physical risks, such as moving mechanical parts, necessitating adherence to basic safety precautions.

• Employees will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, including wet and humid environments, as well as fumes and vibration. Noise levels are typically moderate.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Possession of a valid Class B CDL with an air brakes endorsement and a current Medical Card.

• A clean driving record is essential.

• Ability to read, write, comprehend, and communicate effectively in English is required. A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

• A minimum of 1 year of related experience is required.

• Candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening, a background check, a motor vehicle records check, and a Department of Transportation Physical.
