Commercial Credit Analyst

A member of the Commercial Credit team that partners with senior team members supporting the duties of underwriting and the ongoing monitoring of a portfolio of credit relationships. Responsible for performing supporting analysis, identifying risk issues, and completing sections of credit analysis, as needed, to assess the creditworthiness of commercial clients.

Primary responsibilities include:

• Facilitating the credit needs of customers by underwriting new requests and material modifications from deal screen through approval and for the life of the loan.
• Managing the ongoing credit risk of existing loan portfolios through continuous credit monitoring activities.
• Reviewing all pertinent credit and financial information to determine the need for more thorough investigation or additional information.
• Analyzing financial information and completing credit analyses for the Banks commercial transactions.
• Making appropriate structure recommendations based on an analysis and evaluation of scenarios.
• Identifying suspicious activity and activity that may be contrary to customers interest.
• Partnering proactively with relationship managers and being intimately involved throughout the deal process.
• Preparing cash flow, collateral schedules, covenant sensitivity calculations, financial models, and guarantor statement analysis as appropriate.
• Attending client/prospect calls with relationship managers to gain a thorough understanding of the client/prospect and their business.
• Presenting analysis or addressing questions during credit request discussions or committee presentations.
• Ensuring credit policy compliance by verifying adherence of underwriting to the Commercial Credit Policy.
• Understanding and adhering to the Companys risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls.
• Promoting an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
• Maintaining M&T internal control standards.
• Completing other related duties as assigned.

Scope of responsibilities include:

Commercial Credit is responsible for the credit delivery of the Banks commercial clients throughout the credit lifecycle. Credit assessments range from initial analyses of new relationships to the Bank to material modifications or restructurings of long-term relationships and ongoing monitoring through the life of the loan. Commercial Credit is also responsible for ensuring the accurate completion of the Banks risk rating scorecards and financial statement spreads. The work completed in this capacity is used to make credit decisions for new or renewed or amended credit transactions.

The position interacts with commercial banking relationship managers throughout the banks footprint and industry verticals as well as other internal personnel on credit approvals.

Customer interaction is expected.

Works independently with limited supervision.

Education and experience required:

Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field and 2 years experience in commercial credit, public accounting, financial statement preparation/analysis or other financial analysis. In lieu of a degree, a combined minimum 6 years higher education and work experience to include 2 years experience in commercial credit, public accounting, financial statement preparation/analysis or other financial analysis.

Education and experience preferred:

Experience with Capital IQ, FactSet, and Bloomberg preferred.

Large Corporate Banking experience.

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $77,026.05 - $128,376.75 Annual (USD). The successful candidates particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
