Job Description

A large utility company is seeking a skilled CAD Technician for a long-term contract within the network underground group. The role involves utilizing AutoCAD 2D design and GIS experience to collaborate with the engineering team on various projects. This position requires working closely with the Distribution Support Specialist to implement design approaches and will involve a mix of office and field work.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the engineering team on design projects.

• Follow work direction from the Distribution Support Specialist regarding design implementation.

• Translate verbal and written information into two-dimensional drawings for site civil and electrical construction.

• Ensure accuracy and attention to detail in scale-specific designs.

• Participate in field work, including site visits to underground manholes, ducts, and right-of-ways.

• Engage in 80% drafting at a computer and 20% field activities.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D design.

• Experience with GIS.

• Ability to translate information into detailed, accurate drawings.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

• Basic grasp of engineering drawing and principles.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• At least a 2-year drafting degree.

• Experience in mechanical or architectural drafting.

• Exposure to GIS.

• Positive approach to learning SYME.

Work Environment

The role involves working with a team of three other drafters, each supporting one or two engineers. The CAD Technician will spend 4 days in the office, with opportunity to work 1 day/week remote. Advancement opportunities are available for those with an engineering degree.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.
