The BESS Conceptual Design Manager functions as a technical specialist or in a lead role in support of the Distributed Infrastructure Solution Pursuits Team. Under general direction, develops and applies advanced engineering techniques, concepts, and approaches to complex engineering problems. May provide technical guidance over a group or supervise engineering staff on proposals that range from small to large scope and generally have medium to high-risk profiles. May be responsible for developing, validating, and presenting specialist/technical output.

Professionals in Conceptual Design Manager roles have regular opportunities to interface with Segment, Solution and Operations leadership, while gaining exposure to all client types, delivery methods, contracting models and project risk profiles. Professionals in this role interface directly with Client Account Manager, Project Director and Project Manager, as equals, to develop conceptual designs in support of EPC BESS projects. The designs, calculations, and technical specifications must align with the proposal execution strategy, schedule, value propositions and win strategy. Execution of this role is intended to prepare professionals for accelerated career growth with the skills and experiences required to lead complex engineering and EPC projects.

Key responsibilities include providing guidance and direction on department design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and Black and Veatch policies; assisting in developing, maintaining and updating engineering standards; providing technical guidance to others regarding projects and disciplines; independently applying knowledge and complying with Black and Veatch quality program relative to assigned tasks; supporting continuous improvement and change management efforts; preparing a variety of complex engineering deliverables for larger or multiple projects; performing complex research and developing recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection; overseeing collection, assimilation, and management of data for engineering work; preparing complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles; managing assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements; actively coordinating with all other pursuit team members in support of conceptual design deliverables and engineering turnover; and being responsible for assisting with identification of key client interests, drivers, and win strategies.

Preferred qualifications include advanced knowledge of engineering design principles and applicable design guides and standards related to assigned engineering discipline; understanding of BESS general arrangement drawings; experience with specifying and procuring electrical equipment; understanding and being able to work within a schedule and manhours budget; and familiarity with applicable NEC and IEEE/ANSI standards.

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing; minimum of 11 years related work experience; and the ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
