Overview

The University of Southern California (USC) and the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) Cancer and Blood Disease Institute (CBDI) within the Keck School of Medicine seek an internationally recognized leader to serve as Head of the Section of Transplantation and Cellular Therapy and as Endowed Chair in Transplantation and Cellular Therapy. This individual will oversee clinical and research activities and program expansion in pediatric hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and cancer cell therapy. The position includes an academic appointment through USC Keck School of Medicine at the level of Associate Professor or Professor, appropriate to training and experience, with membership at the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Responsibilities

• Oversee clinical and research activities in pediatric transplantation and cellular therapy.
• Lead program expansion in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and cancer cell therapy, integrating laboratory and clinical science to develop and deliver innovative hematopoietic, gene, and cell therapies.
• Support and guide translational research and clinical trials within the CBDI and CHLA community.
• Collaborate with related divisions and external consortia to advance the program and patient care.

Program Details

The CBDI Transplantation and Cellular Therapy Program currently performs approximately 80–100 transplants annually for a range of pediatric disorders, and approximately 20–40 CAR T-cell therapies each year. The program includes a cell processing laboratory and a cGMP facility, and is accredited by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) and the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP).

The CBDI is a leading pediatric hematology-oncology program in the western United States. The division is affiliated with the USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center and hosts major clinical trials consortia and a robust bench-to-bedside research program. Research funding and a pediatric hematology-oncology fellowship program with advanced subspecialty fellowships are in place.

Qualifications and Appointment

The successful candidate will be an internationally recognized leader eligible for an academic appointment through USC Keck School of Medicine at the level of Associate Professor or Professor, appropriate to training and experience. The position is supported by administrative and research resources, staff, and infrastructure.
