Assistant Civil Engineer - Water, Field (Chicago)

Description

The Assistant Civil Engineer will work under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer to assist in field activities such as site investigations, inspections, and assessments for Burns & McDonnell projects in a variety of locations. Potential projects include drinking water (treatment, storage, and distribution), wastewater (treatment, collection, and conveyance), and stormwater (collection, conveyance, detention, and green infrastructure).

The Assistant Civil Engineer will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting civil plans according to budget constraints, design factors or client needs. This position is entirely field-based, with assignments at various project sites across the Greater Chicago Area.

  Assist in the creation of field reports and documentation of daily work performed on project sites.

  Assist with producing accurate quantity data for use in generation of contractor pay estimates and material certification.

  Assist designers as required for shop drawing reviews, requests for information and change orders.

  Maintain communication with Section Manager throughout the course of the project regarding project progress and issues so they are informed of site progress.

  Assist in solving technical problems related to the project parameters.

  Assist with client coordination as needed.

• n

  Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.

  Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

n
• n

  Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program required or;

  n

• n

  Bachelor Degree in Civil or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam required.

• n

  Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.

  n

• n

  Basic knowledge in standard civil engineering techniques, principles and procedures.

• n

  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  n
n
• n

  Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.

• n

  Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).

• n

  Basic computer skills (e.g. AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCADD), and civil analysis programs.

  Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem solving skills.

  n

  Demonstrated leadership skills.

• n

  Engineers in Training-EIT Certification preferred.

• n

  Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.

  Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.

Compensation

$71, ,000.00 Yearly

The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
